Beatles Poll: The Forgotten

So here are all the songs that couldn't manage to get a single vote. If you had to save one (there can be only one) from total obscurity, which would it be?

The Word, followed closely by What You're Doing. Love 'em both.

I went with the first song on the first Beatles album I ever bought: "Magical Mystery Tour."

"Baby You're a Rich Man" followed by "Magical Mystery Tour."

Do you mean to say "Revolution #9" got votes?

I'm also torn between Baby and MMT. I can't believe they didn't get a vote as many of those songs on that album were so close to each other. Hmmm...I guess I'll go with MMT.

This looks like mostly a list of George's songs, which is sad. I chose Old Brown Shoe because it's always the song that I think "Eh, I don't need to listen to this." But then I do and I think "Holy crap, this is a great song. Why did I think I didn't like it?"

Another voter surprised MMT didn't get any votes.

I went for For You Blue since it's the pleasantly innocuous new earworm that dislodged its horrifying predecessor,
SPOILER:
Dandy, by Herman's Hermits.
Had I given it more consideration, I would have chosen Wait.

Crap, now the HH earworm is back.

"I'm Happy Just to Dance with You."

I'm finding that in most of these polls, I'm picking a song that communicates simple feelings and desires that most people have felt. This is a perfect example.

Does that mean you voted for "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?" too?

What album is "Wait" on? I love that song, can't believe it got zero votes! I could see it not being the big winner when all the votes were tallied, but zero? Easily my favorite from the above list, easily.

I quite like "The Word".

Even as a child attracted to flash over substance, even then I always hated "Magical Mystery Tour".

I like Herman's Hermits.
I love The Kinks, quite like The Kinks' original version of this song- from one of my all-time favorite albums.

How does: Like Herman's Hermits + Like this song = HATE Herman's Hermits doing this song?
Don't know how, but that's the way it is.

"Wait" and "The Word" are on Rubber Soul, as is "What Goes On", another one with zero votes in that album's poll.

The Word, followed by Baby You're a Rich Man.

Magical Mystery Tour is getting far too many votes.

If it ends up looking like Magical Mystery Tour is going to win, I'm going to open up a couple dozen sock accounts just to put that dog down.

I voted for Tell Me What You See because I like it and I suspected it wouldn't get much love. But my real favourite here, by some distance, is Baby, You're a Rich Man.

I'm surprised "Old Brown Shoe" went voteless in previous polls. It's a pretty good song.

Yeah, I love the opening for MMT, especially when they harmonize on "roll up for the Mystery Tour". Speaking of forgotten tracks, I had my Beatles folder on random play last night and wondered if a Shins song had somehow crept into the mix. Turns out it was "Long, Long, Long" from the White Album. I usually just cherry pick the most well known tracks from the WA, so it was a nice "discovery" for me. Rack up another great song for George.

My vote went to Old Brown Shoe, but I think I Want to Tell You and You Like Me Too Much both deserve more love than they seem to be getting. The latter, particularly, may be slight, but it is wonderfully cheerful.

Great song, but it never had a chance against the competition on Past Masters 2.

I'm surprised "What You're Doing" has fared so poorly. It's always been one of my favorite Beatle songs.

Dizzy Miss Lizzy. I like the vocals, the guitar riff gets a little old.

Yes! I agree! But... is loving six words' worth of a harmony mean the enire song'll hold my interest? I have a feeling I'll hit Next long before the MMT "takes me awayyyyyy...".

Annnnd... I might just find out. I think I WILL make a playlist of these Second String Beatles Songs. I've been buying the remastered discs* whenever they go on sale, and I think I have all of these "Legion of Substitute Super-Songs" tracks.

*ps: I call them the "Ringo and George are amazing!" editions-- I'm hearing riffs (and bongos!) that I never did before.
