For the last few years, the Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror episode has been broadcast the Sunday after Halloween. And the Halloween episodes on the other Sunday animated shows are also.
Why? Halloween was on a Sunday this year. Why not broadcast a holiday-related show on the holiday? And it the holiday isn’t on the right night of the week, then broadcast the episode before the holiday.
While I came late to The Simpsons, (I had never watched a single episode until just 5 or 6 years ago) I have never found the annual Treehouse Of Terror episodes funny or engaging.
Is it just me, or are others also less than impressed with the yearly Halloween special?
Not to beat a dead horse, but you missed the golden years. The first five ToHs are among the best Simpsons episodes ever. The next five are all pretty good. After that, they get pretty hit and miss and the one a few years ago, with a Transformers parody for god sake’s, was almost unwatchable.
The entire last decade, with one exception. Somehow, in 2009, they managed to get it on in October.
I still don’t see why they don’t just air it before baseball takes everything over. So it’d be a few weeks early, WELL SO WHAT? So long as it’s October, it’s good.
I supposed we should just be glad that the Halloween in November episode isn’t also the season premiere, like it was for a good chunk of the 00’s.
I guess airing them on the Monday off-day would disturb the normal Monday lineup.
The board game one had unrealized potential and thus went nowhere, the Hugh Laurie one was DOA (pardon the unintentional pun), neither of which made me want to catch the Twilight parody at all. [And the repeat from last year of Moe’s musical that I caught was horrid] The last best THOH clip was “A Clone of My Own”, from 2004 I believe.
The promos I saw (yes, during the World Series) made me think this year’s Treehouse of Horror would be dreadful. I actually enjoyed it (even the Twilight parody, if that’s what it was—I wouldn’t know) more than I thought I would.
I’m not familiar with the shows being parodied for 2/3 of the episode, but as a fan of The Office the opening was well worth the price - it was fun figuring out which Office characters were which monsters.
The Simpsons stopped calling them Halloween specials for that reason. I don’t know what year they stopped doing this but it was pretty soon.
I heard in a voice over commentary, Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons, say the ToT episodes didn’t air AFTER Halloween but rather they were just VERY early for the next Halloween
