Amen. That plague just went through my circle of friends, two of us being in this house. I didn’t think I was going to want to eat ever again.
We’ve only got one bathroom here. Thank Og me and roomie had the “worst part” one day apart. Otherwise it would have been quite a scene.
I bleach blasted the house once we were over it. It took me an entire day just to get my bedroom, bathroom and kitchen clean. A little bit of scrubbing, a little bit of napping, repeat.
If it’s gastrointestinal, it’s not the flu- that’s respiratory. So a virus or food poisoning, which is very common at this time of year, what with all the cooking and eating going on. Do drink fluids, and I hope everyone gets better soon.
Soft TP is truly one of humanity’s greatest achievements.
Next time someone can get to the grocery store, look in the dry soup mix section, right next to the onion soup, there’s something called noodle soup mix, it’s even made by Lipton. Pick up a box or two, because this stuff blows canned chicken noodle soup out of the water. You can add a bit of chicken to it or not, it’s basically a chicken broth with noodles in it, but it’s just right for when you can’t really eat anything but you know you need SOMETHING.
We never get sick so I seriously didn’t know that. Not that it matters, I guess, but interesting to note nonetheless. I’m guessing it was a virus because the first two came down with it before we shared a meal.
Der Zsofiahaus is also infected. Maybe because SOMEBODY keeps leaving his gross snotty tissues everywhere! And I have to be at work tonight or else somebody would have to stay late and I just want to die.
ETA - we don’t have a tummy thing, just a horrible head cold. I haven’t had one of these for ages - generally my public library-honed immune system can take on all comers.
Spousal unit was diagnosed with bronchitis yesterday. Today, my daughter and I are hacking like chain smokers. My ribs hurt from coughing. I’m thinking a medicinal bottle of wine will help me sleep. Or more nyquil. Either way.
Red wine always helps me when I have a bad cough - I think it relaxes my throat. Of course, one time I prescribed myself a bunch of red wine AND some DayQuil and let my boyfriend cut my hair.
AFAIK the most common cause of “firing out of both ends simultaneously” is norovirus. had it myself two years ago. Started with my grandmother (going to those damn senior card parties and stuff) and pretty much made its way through the rest of the family within the week.
Ugh, this has hit me too. I started throwing up Tuesday night and it’s migrated south of the border today.
I totally love the Lipton soup mix. All I’ve had to eat today is that and about a full 2 liter of ginger ale. I’m so lethargic and my muscles are killing me, it’s makes staying in bed too achy.
How long did this last for you guys? I’m looking for the light at the end of thetunnel here.
AKA “Tummy Bug,” “Stomach Flu,” “Intestinal Flu,” etc.
Not part of the influenza family. As noted, most common cause is the norovirus.
It had me in the local emergency room at 3 A.M. Monday morning, after having several bouts of diarrhea and severe emesis (and dry heaves!).
The last incident was so bad I started vomiting blood from an esophageal tear; at least, that’s what the E.R. Doctor thought. Scared me bad enough I drove to the local hospital.
The put me on anti-nausea meds and IV fluids, and kept me for observation, kicking me loose at noon on Tuesday after eating a solid breakfast (a half a bowl of oatmeal) and keeping it down.
My system is still a little…off. Strong food odors makes my stomach flip-flop a bit. I get a little queasy seeing all the damned food commercials on TV; the Pizza Hut commercial had me moving towards the bathroom, but nothing happened.
I’m eating saltine crackers, rice, drinking lots of water, and watered down bouillon.
Start to finish it was 4 days.
ETA: Forgot to add that all of us are still complaining of our stomachs being off. No one is willing to try grease or dairy yet.
Crap. Came home from work and felt lethargic. Took a nap and woke up achey and chilled as hell. Which was odd as I havn’t moved my thermostat and it’s warmer right now then it has been in a month.
My magic medicine rod says mild fever so far So I went to the local which doctor and picked up some zinc, vitamin C and Advil.
Hopefully I caught it early enough I will not succumb to the evil hex. But If I do, of well a 4 day weekend and loads of football to watch will make it the best time of the year for it to happen.
Oooh, 4 days is good. That would mean I’ve got one more day. The good news is that I went back to bed shortly after my last post and woke up just now feeling like the fever had gone for good! So my stomach is still upset but at least I’m no longer a total zombie.
I hope you feel better too wolfman. Go to bed and drink a lot of water!
Yay the good magic worked I think. Woke up a little after midnight and realized It was feeling a lot more head-coldish than gut or lung based, So I washed the little nasties out with my Neti-pot. A lot of tossing and turning and whining, but I finally fell asleep and woke feeling better, with no fever, and only a bit of achey.
Now I have to feel a little guilty about the super-premium Strawberry ice-cream I bought for the worst case, but no sense letting it go to waste.
