Beavis & Butthead return! Duh-naa Na-na-na! Duh-na-na-na-na-naa Na-na-na!

(FYI: The Duh-na-nas in the thread title should be sung to the tune of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man”)

So it’s been announced that Mike Judge is producing new eps of the classic 90s slacker toon, “Beavis & Butthead,” and they’ll air on MTV this summer.

Best part? This means music videos will return to MTV!

Cool.

My favorite line from “…Do America”:

Butthead: “Is this a God dam?” (at Hoover dam speaking to a tour guide, IIRC).

Count me in as being happy they’re coming back!

Q

Wake me when they bring back Daria.

This was actually in the news as far back as last July.

But now that it’s official, it makes my bunghole very pleased.

I think the actual reason for bringing the show back is Mike Judge has been doing the Tom Anderson / Hank Hill voice for so long that he missed having a reason to do it when King of the Hill finally called it a day.

What…the hell?

Or maybe the Goode Family didn’t last long enough for him to get Van Driessen’s voice out of his system.

I’m waiting for the 10-year HS reunion that Daria has to attend.

I freaking love Daria. I have all 5 seasons plus the movie on my computer (crappy tv rips since afaik no dvd of the show has ever been released). Most of the time when I bring up the show in casual conversation (not often), nobody knows who the hell she is. I tell them “it’s the smartest cartoon you’re not watching.” Daria is who I wished I could be in high school. Because I felt the way she feels about jocks and cheerleading and malls and crass overcommercialization, but always just played along at that age.

But anyway, I am hoping they’ll write Daria in as a side character.

No no, that was Beavis who said that.

This is going to RULE!!! (I can’t wait to see them watch a Justin Bieber video!)

Quasi plays the dementia card.

Thanks

Q

They released the complete series on DVD almost a year ago.

They took out all the background music (licensing issues) but I honestly never even noticed. The show is just that good.

Boi-oi-oi-ooooiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggg!

That RULES!

Duuh duuh duuuuh, duh duh duh-duuuuh! (Smoke on the Water.)

Too bad I don’t have MTV any more but I’ll find a way.

I don’t know, I was a big B&B fan but I have my doubts about this. The characters were products of their time–Anderson the retired WWII vet, Buzzcut the Vietnam vet, van Dreesen the Aging Hippie. They won’t work if they haven’t aged. And as for B&B, who watches music videos today?

I guess they’ll have to be watching them on YouTube. B & B trying to use a computer could be funny.

Nope, Quasi was right. That was Butthead’s line.

No, Guin was right. It was Beavis, according to imdb:

Hoover Dam Guide: Now, can anybody tell me how much energy it takes to power Las Vegas?
Beavis: Yeah, I just have a question. Um, is this a God dam?

The biggest problem is that we have changed. Or at least me, I should probably only speak for myself. I liked the show a lot when it was on, but when I tried to watch it again recently it didn’t appeal to me even a little.

The reruns still appeal to me, but largely in a nostalgic way. That show totally nailed a certain kind of subculture in that time and place. For my friends and I, we were watching ourselves. Butt-head’s pothead, “huh huh huh” laugh was just perfect.

ETA I do agree that I have a hard time seeing it work anymore unless they really update it. Even if they keep B&B the same I age, I concur that letting them watch and comment on youtube videos (not just songs, but viral videos too) would have a much better chance of success.
