I’d like to watch two hours each Saturday evening for the next four weeks and start a thread to discuss what we’ve seen so far - is anyone else interested in joining in? I know we have a bunch of “The Stand” fans on board here.
I’ll join in but I won’t need to re-watch, it’s one of those things I resort to (and always seems to be on LOL) when I’m out of stuff to watch. I did watch the beginning the other day and it seems I never catch that part, since usually it’s halfway over before I notice it’s on.
The best part about the mini-series is how well Gary Sinise does as Stu Redman. I’ll never see him as any one else.
Me neither. I looked over the list of the major cast members the other day, and there really was only two wrong notes - Molly Ringwald and Laura San Giacomo. The rest was pretty damned good casting.
Agreed. Though I would have liked someone other than Corin Nemec for Harold. The last “the Stand” thread in here, someone mentioned a rumor about a real movie being made at some point.
I’d love to see that, though if they do it, they’ll need to make it a trilogy or something. Sounds like fun, I’m in!
I thought Harold was badly mis-cast. I got the impression from the book that he was rather over weight and bad looking.
I’ve actually never seen it. I was excited to see it pop up on my Netflix queue. I’m in.
I could do this but I won’t be able to start tomorrow morning. When are you planning to watch the first 2 hours (technically, 90 minutes)?

Saturday evening is my plan - my husband and I have started watching movies at home Saturday evenings, so I figure I’ll just work this mini-series in. Join in when you can - I just thought it would be interesting for a bunch of us to watch the same thing at roughly the same time and come and discuss it.
Good point about the parts - there are four parts, so watching a whole part each Saturday makes sense. Part 1: The Plague scheduled for Saturday, April 9th then.
Molly Ringwald and Corin Nemec, aside, I thought the casting was pretty good. Like several other people have mentioned, I can’t read the book now without picturing Gary Sinise as Stu Redman. And Jamey Sheridan as Randall Flagg was pitch perfect. I’m surprised he didn’t go on to bigger things.
Since it’s available on Netflix Streaming, I’m in!
I agree that Molly Ringwald was not good as Fran, but I understand why they cast her (they needed the star-power she brought at the time); in addition to the other pitch-perfect casting, though, I’ll throw in Ray Walston as Bateman, as well as Matt Frewer as The Trashcan Man!

And more good casting… Bill Fagerbakke as Tom Cullen. He was great. Ray Walston as well.

Indeed. Also, Ossie Davis was inspired casting as The Judge.
Just a heads up, Canadian Netflix streaming does not have the same content as Netflix in the USA. The Stand is not available in Canada. 
Similarly, I think Rob Lowe as Nick was absolutely correct.
Sheridan might not have wound up being the biggest star, but he did put in five years on Law & Order: Criminal Intent (where, I have to admit, I was a little amused to see Randall Flagg as an upstanding defender of justice).
I once read an interview with Stephen King, in which he was asked about the casting for films based on his stories. He said the problem with film is that once an actor does a role it’s hard to see anyone else but that actor as the character.
Asked about The Stand he said he though Robert Duvall would have made a splendid Randall Flagg.
Yes, absolutely. I thought most of the casting was great, with the exception of Molly Ringwald. I don’t know who else would have been good, but she was just not right for the role.
Gary Sinise was awesome as Stu.
Rob Lowe, Bill Fagerbakke, Ossie Davis, Ray Walston, Jamey Sheridan…all wonderful choices.
