As if the Republican race for their presidential candidate could not get more silly:
[Makes popcorn]
I mean, really, I would love to see him do it as it would virtually guarantee a victory for Obama but this IMHO speaks more for what I do think is the big elephant in the room that many Republicans are ignoring, namely that if as expected Romney is the one that gets the nomination, the support he will get will be very, very volatile when the final presidential contest takes place.
And this is the optimistic scenario, if Newt gets it I expect that the term “Obama’s Republicans” will be the meme of the POTUS election.
What happened to Face the Nation? They’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel for guests.
But Trump won’t run. He just muses about it every so often for the free publicity. He’s been playing this game for twenty years, the fact that he still gets taken semi-seriously by anyone is pretty eye-rolling.
Yep I think so too, and that is why I did say would love to see him try, but I do know it is not very likely to happen, however I do think the “friendly” fire seen so far does hint to a third candidate to show up for the election when Romney gets the nod as the Tea party faction has show repeatedly that purity of thought and no compromise are what it counts nowadays.
What an idiot. If his real concern was making sure Obama doesn’t win the election, he wouldn’t want any third party pulling votes away from the Republican candidate. (Though I don’t believe in Trump’s ability to get enough votes to swing the election either way.)
The news network that broadcast this story, knows it was false, that he’s signed for another season of Apprentice and that he is just attention whoring for ratings. Which one is scummier?
It is already on the record that I do think that both are scummier.
I think that regarding elections this is bound to get worse as election spending for ads are virtually the last reliable income for the old media.
It is vital to have a horse race, if people get the impression that the election will be a blowup then less money will be there (Right now many TV station and old media owners in Florida are laughing all the way to the bank, thank you supreme court!).
A likely third party candidate (once again, Trump is not the only one considering this) will get the networks more money as there will be now another group feeding the old beast.
Eh, my memory is kinda hazy, but despite Trump’s claim, I don’t think this primary has been particularly rancorous compared to past primaries. No ones been accused of having a black bastard child or of touting “voodoo economics” or called each other a judas. And IIRC, at this point in 2008, Huckabee was dropping increasingly unsubtle attacks on Romney’s religion, a subject everyones more or less stayed clear of this time around.
And if Newt looses in FL, its going to be pretty clear to the various campaign donors that Romney’s it, and cash for attack ads against him will dry up pretty fast. I suspect even Saul Anderson’s wallet will shut as it becomes clear Newt’s a lost cause, and the actual “attack the other guy” portion of this primary will actually be shorter then some of its predecessors.
Trump himself said in the interview this morning that his TV contract was a big hindrance to running for President. Which I find strange. If I were a multi-millionair convinced that the only way to save the country was by me, personally, running for President, I wouldn’t let a puny TV contract stand in my way.
And it’s not like NBC can’t find another rich person to host their show. How about The Apprentice starring:
Warren Buffett?
Bill Gates?
Carly Fiorina?
Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Jack Welch?
