WETA-UK coming -- British TV for the DC area

WETA, a PBS affiliate for Washington DC and vicinity, is bringing out a new channel in June: WETA-UK. It will be all British programming, all the time.

Finally.

Well actually, I wasn't expecting this at all. It is a welcome but complete surprise.

This news almost — almost, mind you — makes up for endless years of Are You Being Served? re-runs. But they have their work cut out for them, before I forgive them entirely. I notice most of the shows on the initial schedule are ones WETA has already been running for some time. No surprise there. But I'm pleased to see a couple I'm not familiar with as well as some old favorites like Red Dwarf. Maybe they'll churn things up a bit too as time goes on.

Anyway. Your thoughts or hopes for this new channel?

Well, if you tell us some of the programmes, we'll perhaps be able to tell you to watch or not watch them...

For pity's sake, you don't need to quote the entire OP, it's right there - we can read it ourselves! Argh!

Meanwhile, I thought this was something to do with Weta Digital, Peter Jackson's visual effects company in New Zealand. It's odd that a US based TV station should choose letters that match a large antipodean forest cricket.

I didn't actually intend to quote the original message actually, and would edit it, I was sure I used to be able to do that.

As for being pointless, thanks for also being pointless because I really DO care you wanted to know about Peter Jacksons visual effects company. 'Argh', perhaps?

It doesn't look like it will be in HD though. The sub-channel it's on doesn't do HD and the Verizon channel is not HD either. It will be nice to have, but I like watching the newer stuff in HD.

Don't worry, there will still be endless reruns of your favourite show!

Seems like all WETA plays is limey shows that aren't exciting enough to have been ripped off by Americans; What is their target market, Octogenarian Anglophiles?

Yes. They did the research and found that was the group that cares most deeply about tote bags.
