What would you do if you were going bald?

Now that there are many options for balding people, that is, other than the simple let yourself go bald. Not all methods work perfectly but what would you do, assuming right now you were to start to go bald?

Just what I’m doing now. Let nature take it’s course.

I voted other, because I would shave my remaining hair off. I’m done with half measures!

Nothing, except wear a hat to keep my head warm. Oh, I don’t like that I’m going bald; but I don’t care enough to either shave my head or use Rogaine or whatnot. As a rule the defining contributing factor of my “look” can be summed up as “entropy”; what takes the least effort?

Hair restoration surgery is most effective after some hair has been lost but not all of it, so after the surgery one would need to take Propecia pills or use Rogaine in order to maintain the remainder of their hair that has not fallen out.

Some men probably decide that it’s not worth it to fight what is naturally occurring, and I think this is reflected in the poll results in this thread.

I’m already starting to, and I really don’t mind. I don’t think baldness is unattractive.

buy some hats/scarves/bandanas

Meh. I buzz it pretty short and wear a hat. I’m not too happy about it, but I don’t get the sense that there are any methods of restoration that are reliable enough to risk the expense of trying them. I’m hoping technology comes up with a surer (or cheap and quick) solution soon.

I am (slowly) going bald but as I keep my hair buzzed short or shaved completely most of the year it doesn’t bother me. I 'd actually like to go bald quicker so I no longer have to deal with my hair.

The average age on these boards is easily old enough that this poll should have a past tense option.

Okay, here I am giving TMI about myself again, but I chose hair restoration surgery, and have had it. In fact, I had my second procedure this past November.

Ask anything you like, or I could start an “Ask the…” thread.

The one and only (so far) vote for Propecia pills here. I’ve been taking them for five or six years after starting to lose small clumps of hair and general MPB, which runs in the family. I’ve not noticed any side effects except less hair loss.

If I were a man going bald, I would get a really good haircut at an upscale salon. Like Elliot in SVU. They had a serious stylist on set…

Right. Literally “nothing” isn’t a good option for balding men. We need to go to a stylist or barber who knows how to cut for balding hair. Over the years my hair cut has gotten shorter and shorter as I’ve gone from just barely thinning to quite thin on top with the hairline receded a lot.

It really annoys me when people say I’d look better with longer hair or they liked longer hair on me. I don’t really like a buzz cut, but I’m trying to avoid the George Costanza look. I’m doing the best I can here.

With a good haircut, it’s a good look.

I am going bald. I’m doing nothing till it get really noticeable, them I’m getting a buzz cut.

Started going bald 15 years ago. Now I just shave it all off.

Other: keep it short and let nature otherwise take its course (this is a “what did you”, rather than would)

That’s what I did as well when my hair began thinning. I had no “bald spot”, but I figured I’d head it off at the pass.

I voted “other”. I too would shave all the remaining hair off.
