Aka, crazy people pretending to be sick when they aren’t. This is a well-written feature piece on the phenomenon, and I thought it might be of particular interest here.
'mkay, that was incredibly disturbing.
So you’re saying that people who do this are not okay?
Yeah, I’ve been reading The Warrior Eli Hoax Blog. It’s amazing just HOW MANY people love to lie about things like cancer for attention.
Exactly, couldn’t have said it better.
On a site I frequent, we had a person who faked their death * multiple * times.
Fascinating. Absolutely fascinating.
Thanks for posting. Very interesting.
A HA!! I know one of the people in that story IRL. The “handsome Sheriff” Officer Chris Swanson, of the Genesee County Sheriff’s office. He’s been a fellow gym-buddy of mine for the past several years. Too funny.
On a deaf site I frequent, we get a lot of strange fakers…
No, he’s saying that people who do this are 'mkay.
Fascinating story, thanks!
When I first started posting here there was a woman who was spinning lies about her dying baby.
She supposedly was posting from the hospital bed as baby took her last breath. Riiiight.
@MsWhatsit: Thanks for the link. I thought I knew about “Munchausen syndrome by Internet”, but that article provided a lot more info.
I scanned through it. People are weird.
I’m dead right now.
What?

I’m dead right now.
No, you’re only mostly dead. If you were all dead, there’s only one thing we could do…
I’m ashamed to admit but I suffer from Munchausen syndrome. I feign having Munchausen syndrome in order to elicit sympathy from people on the internet.
The first Munchausen by Proxy case I heard of was Kaycee Nicole - it’s the kind of shit you’d expect to b on Unsolved Mysteries or something! So creepy.
Topless Tuesdays on Tumblr, eh?
Ignorance fought!
