Guitarists - A Lesson on How it's Done - Al Casey edition

Apparently,** Al Casey** was Fats Wallers’ guitarist - why the heck don’t I know about this guy? I came across this track, Buck Jumpin’ on a collection called Jazz Guitar Pioneers - I think he is playing either an acoustic archtop or an electric with very low amplification.

He sounds like what would happen if Brian Setzer and Jeff Beck got together to play T-Bone Walker’s stuff on acoustic archtops. Wow.

Note: the needle drops on the record about 10 seconds into the recording…

Lemme fix that link for you. Good stuff, though.

I know it’s somewhat different, and it may just be the similar audio qualities, but the first thing it reminded me of was Django Reinhardt.

It reminded me of Kenny Burrell. I liked it.

How come I click on that link (either the OP or the ‘fixed’ link in the first reply) and I get a mobile YouTube site with links to videos that don’t do squat - literally nothing happens – when I click on them? I finally searched on the song title on YouTube and came up with a link that actually works for non-mobile viewers.

First of all, sorry about the link silliness; I stink at this stuff.

Secondly - oh, yeah, there’s a lot of Django in the tone. Casey is playing a blues structure with jazz chords and approach…

ETA: yeah, I love Kenny Burrell and Grant Green; probably my two favorite jazz players, so no surprise they sound similar…

bump for Monday - follow the link in squeegee’s post for some cool old jazzy, bluesy guitar.

That’s a real treat - thanks for the link!
