I’m gonna provide some mouseover courtesy space, but if you open the thread you’ll be spoiled for the 25 May episode by the poll. Sorry, but it can’t be helped.

Regular watchers will have noted that Peggy has just been dumped by her boyfriend Abe (for whom she was too good anyway but that’s another issue) after accidentally stabbing him in the gut and, tragically, not killing him. He dumped her on the way to the hospital, saying he wanted to be clear that he wasn’t doing so because of the stabbing but because she was a horrible person. Watching this, the first thing that came to mind was Peggy crying in her apartment when she realized that the cute boy she thought had a crush on was, in fact, mostly interested in doing her hair.
Which brings us to the thread question. Does Peggy have bad LUCK with me, or bad TASTE in men?
I feel like Pete and Duck were bad judgment. But I liked Abe at first, and was proud of her for choosing better. But then Abe turned into a moron and she still bought a house with him, which was incredibly stupid. I’ve done similar stupid things, but still. Stupid.
So, I voted bad judgment, but I don’t think Abe was a part of that pattern at first.
I’d say a bit of both. Abe wasn’t a terrible guy, they were just all wrong for each other. Ted Chaough would probably be a good match for her if he wasn’t married. And let’s not even talk about Duck or Pete.
Like everyone else on this show, Peggy struggles with her identity and the kind of life she wants vs. what she thinks she’s supposed to want. She’s made some questionable choices in the romantic department but she’s hardly alone there.
She needs to find a guy who isn’t threatened by the fact that she works, wants to continue to work and actually makes really good money. Probably more money than most guys she might date. That’s going to be difficult in 1968.
Peanuts thrived after Charles Schultz realized that each of his characters had to have a weak spot. Linus had his blanket, Lucy had a crush on Schroeder, and Charlie Brown could never win anything.
Peggy is the best person on the show. She’s smart, capable, moral, and unlimited in her future. She’d be a Mary Sue without something to humanize her. Her men haven’t been bad choices when she made them; the writers just sour them at some later point. Abe was right. The Man is keeping her down.
Yeah, I realized that (since they aren’t married, would it even be possible back then to buy a place jointly? I was surprised she had as easy a time as she did by herself), but she didn’t want the place. She bought it for Abe. Now he’s gone off to get stabbed by a woman who understands him, and poor Pegs has to try and sell that dump.
