On the bright side, we found a much cheaper contractor ($3500) who is throwing in a water heater replacement which we needed anyway. And, he guarantees they can test and finish the job in one day. So there’s that.
… it turns out there’s water IN the house too. There are about 80 giant dehumidifiers running right now. Tomorrow they’re going to tear up our year-old wood floors. Dear god these things are loud.
A friend of mine had a flood that made them replace part of their wooden floor. They couldn’t find an EXACT match to the rest of the floor, and insurance allowed them to replace everything up to the natural boundaries - change to tile, carpet, etc.
Just sayin’.
Bummer, OP. Plumbing problems really bring down your quality of life.
And if it’s any consolation, this year for my birthday I went for a chemotherapy session. By myself. For the first time in many years I was poisoning myself on my birthday, but not with alcohol.
If this had happened a year ago I would have been thrilled - but we loved the flooring we got (and paid for ourselves). It came from Empire Direct though so I can’t imagine it will be that hard to match.
Well, that kind of puts it in perspective. :o Thank you for that - and I mean it. I hope your recovery is on track.
Look on the bright side, it could have been sewage. We had a sewer back up that cost us $18,000, after insurance. We couldn’t be in the house for over 10 days. The total cost was about $50K
Thank you for the kind words. And I was sincere in my comments about homeowner plumbing woes. My friend, I suffered through several years of occasional problems with my septic tank, but at least it never backed up into the house. I SWEAR if I ever buy another house it will have sewers.
