So What Happens to Truman After the Truman Show?

So my biggest complaint is that The Truman Show missed an opportunity to really explore what happened to Truman by ending the movie when it did. Do people think Truman just easily adapted to the real world? That's doubtful. Of course he is a celebrity, but also a sudden realization that everyone was watching everything about you. Then of course the environment he lived in was pretty antiseptic, his naivete would be a huge problem.

Sylvia was running to meet him, and presumably would work to integrate him into the real world. I got the impression that they might eventually live in a small town.

Because there was nobody looking out for him when he left, he was struck and killed by a bus almost immediately.

He was unable to adjust to the real world and his mega-fame. Within a year, he signed for a new contract to return to the dome and TV show, with some minor conditions.

Ultimately, he raised children who were never told they were a TV show.

How hard would it be to have people with mini hidden cameras follow him around wherever he went?

After failing to find a place in "real" society, hounded constantly by fans, stalkers, detractors, producers, and paparazzi, Truman runs out onto the freeway and gets hit by a cement mixer. Only in death does he find any peace.

Truman spends a few years doing the celebrity shtick, but his popularity eventually wanes and he is ultimately reduced to doing gay porn just to have a camera pointed at him.

ETA: better yet, since vaccinations are unknown in Seahaven, Truman eventually dies of measles.

Suicide. Going from finding out you're the most important person in your world to being just some guy breaks him.

Sylvia meets up with him and takes him in. He is then inundated with offers from employment lawyers offering to sue Christos and the production company for back wages owed - at Equity scale - for the entirety of Truman's life up to the time he left. Truman ends up owning the studio dome, which gets turned into a theme park.

He also writes a bestselling book about what it was like to be him from his perspective, and then another about life after the dome.

And he and Sylvia travel. A lot.

Ran for Vice President. After the President died in office, became President himself. Nuked Japan (his Nielsens had never been high there.)

Rumors are that it wasn't suicide. Although they found his body at the base of Coit Tower, police suspect that he may have been murdered by local San Francisco identity Ed 'Eddie' Pekurny. The case remains open I hear.

He finally gets to exercise true "free will" and all that that brings. Rather than the illusory free will as granted by a guy in the sky.

Doesn't really matter what he actually did.

He and Sylvia meet and travel to Fiji where they spend some time together. He avoids the limelight and any traditional commitments such as a corporate job and marriage.

Either that (or, IMO, the platform on the other side of the door collapsed and he plunged to his death), or, now that Truman knew there was an "out there", the concept of the show changed to The Truman Show World Tour.

I figure a good ten to fifteen years worth of law suits, serious substance abuse, an incredibly fucked up relationship with Sylvia (who is not a mentally healthy woman by any standard) and probably an early death.

About the lawsuits; the production company has been doing this for 30 years in with a global audience. I think it's safe to that the legal system has some major differences with the real world. Hell the production company likely had state & federal law changed to suit them; they already managed to get the law changed so that a corporation could adopt an orphan.

Mental breakdown.

Life in an asylum.

He traded one, happy, controlled world, for another, less pleasant one.

One of the other babies, who just missed being Truman because they were not quite born at the right time, tracks him down and kills him.

I like to think his name is Guy Gardner.

The movie has so many ridiculous plot holes and completely ignores many legal obstacles that would have prevented the show from ever getting off the ground in the first place.

But, taking the movie at face value, and assuming the studio and Cristof weren't arrested for their long list of crimes:
Truman would likely find the wide world a larger version of Seahaven in many ways. He'd be stalked and stared at and pointed to wherever he went. I could see a whole industry revolving around filming Truman as he goes about his daily life. If anything, lashing out, drugs, alcohol, etc, would make it more interesting to people.
The actors, extras, and crew would all be out of work. Some would be upset with Truman for ending their jobs, and some would feel guilty for participating in his kidnapping and exploitation.
Cristof, well that's a tough one. In a universe where you can kidnap someone as a child and then covertly film every moment of that person's (captive) life while controlling everything they do, well, what consequences could there be for him? He'd owe Truman huge amounts of money, so that could cause some legal battles. I could see him trying to talk to Truman, and Truman getting pissed and punching him out.

I could see Truman going to either extreme. He could move somewhere remote and isolate himself from humanity. He lived a pretty sheltered life, I could see him getting to the point where he was just unable to function in the real world. Or, used to having attention, he could just embrace it, partner up with Cristof or someone else, and rake it in. Truman is shown to be a bit of a ham, even when alone.

He could often be found blatantly looking in windows, following people as they moved from room to room while he snacked on a bag of potato chips, sometimes nachos. Whenever he got noticed he would shout "Hey! How do you like it?" which always made them too embarrassed to press charges.

Realizing how much modern technology was used to screw him, he becomes the wold's first and only Amish Missionary. It fails because most people don't hear him knocking and he refuses to use the doorbell. He is later murdered by a Kardashian for stealing the omnipresent audience that should have belonged to them.

It's not "kidnapping"; Truman was the first child "legally adopted by a corporation". Mind you, he'd have an interesting case for child abuse - on the one hand, he was well cared for but on the other, he was held captive through psychological manipulation. At the very least he'd have a good civil case for damages (in addition to the back wages he's owed, of course).

The movie actually deals with that (perhaps not realistically, but maybe) - right at the end, the security guards start looking for something else to watch. Truman's fame has ended. He's probably a minor celebrity - he's "hey, aren't you that guy who used to be in The Truman Show?"

The computer his simulation is running on (The Sims 54) crashes when Windows 17 bluescreens. He is lost for all time since "cloud save" never worked.

The only trace of him left is dozens of YouCube tridi videos.

Except that, in the context of his personal experience, he was never the most important person the world, any more than any of us are. He always thought he was just "some guy." He only found out the world was watching at the very last minute, not nearly long enough to have even sunk in psychologically.

In fact, his point of view was just the opposite, he went from being just some guy to being world famous in an instant. THAT could have jacked him up, of course.

Truman Show Epilogue

First he becomes really stupid, then really smart and funny, then he develops an affiliation with pets, then goes crazy over a number, then develops multiple personalties, then multiple personalities & maniacal & huge and green, then he hates christmas, then evil & green & steals christmas, then lies about everything, then cant lie, then forgets everything, then becomes poor, then comes out, then becomes the chosen one again.
