Can an organ donor who kills himself still dontate organs or do they have to be sliced up in an autopsy?

i think it depends on

  1. how the person kills themselves. If they jump from a building there may not be any organs left to donate

  2. There would have to be no doubt that it was a suicide… and a lot of the time, they routinely do an autopsy to make sure. I.e. to make sure drugs were not in the system (foul play… drug 'em up and fake the suicide while they’re sleeping).

If it is a law that no suicides can be organ donors, then we have found yet another law that needs to be changed.

As Kalt said, depending on the suicide, it might not be easy to recover usable organs. Another problem might be that
I imagine, in the case of a suicide, the authorities would demand an autopsy. And the body might, well, “spoil” in the time it took to do one. I think some organs have to be taken
out pretty quick. It doesn’t take long for some of them to die once the heart stops beating.
