I don’t think we’ve had any proposals to vote on rule changes for this year, although the floor is open for them now. You can find the OPs for previous years embedded in a link to each year’s thread, so you can go back and see rules and procedures we added in previous years spelled out there. Quick reminder: FAAB, commish approval on trades, and retro-active roster changes under certain circumstances when intent is clearly stated by all parties involved.
You’re telling me. Last year was my first last place finish so I am going to chalk that up to…Obama or something. But I’ve been playing a lot of Madden in the off-season so I am ready to do this now!
Over the years, I’ve been trying to start or participate in more and more novel fantasy formats that are interesting. The big league, and dynasty league, in particular, are my favorite leagues. But between all the leagues I’m in, and a money league not on the SDMB, I’m finding my fantasy enjoyment is diminished. I just have too many things to keep track of on sunday, often conflicting.
So I’m trying to shed myself of some leagues to raise my enjoyment of the fantasy season. This was my first league and I have a sentimental attachment, having been doing it for 9 years, but it has also been a somewhat vanilla experience compared to the more novel ones, and the level of participation has never been as high as I’d envisioned when I formed it, so this is one of the ones I may leave.
I’d need a volunteer replacement as commissioner and another player to fill out the empty slot. You wouldn’t have to continue the little extras I tend to do unless you wanted to, although it ends up being not very much work. You’d mostly just have to prod people along, listen to rule proposals, and occasionally sort out some sort of minor problem, and recruit any absent people from year to year - we usually have a very high retention rate so it’s not difficult.
Alright, we’ve got two unfilled slots currently, Jimmy Chitwood and Overly Sentimental. Since Overly Sentimental has joined other leagues he’s participating in, I assume that means he intends not to sign up for this one. Jimmy is active on the boards, so I sent him a PM - that should be resolved soon.
So we’re recruiting - possibly up to three slots, if I can get a replacement for myself.
The last two sign ups have been filled, which means we’re at a full league currently. I may end up bowing out, and if so I’ll recruit someone to take my place, but otherwise we should be drafting at full capacity with either 11/12 or 12/12 from last year.
Frosted Glass has volunteered to commish if I end up not doing it this year. This league doesn’t have a lot of maintenance or disputes or anything, so it shouldn’t be too much work and in the event that I’m not in here, and there’s some sort of dispute, I’ll weigh in if needed.
I should’ve put this up for vote weeks ago, but looking through the league history, I just noticed now that last year we had a vote to switch to auction drafting which tied at 4 vs 4. I strongly prefer auction drafting - pretty much everyone who uses it ends up preferring it. It allows everyone to be involved in every pick of the draft, it gives you more control over shaping your team, it makes different sorts of strategies viable (like drafting the equivelant of 3 first rounders and 10 12th rounders if you want), it’s just generally more fun and involving. I want all my leagues to be auction.
Anyway, I set up a poll in the league, hopefully that link works, otherwise just check recent messages within the league. I’m going to send out PMs and e-mail messages in the hopes that everyone will state their opinion.
Since it’s a pretty big change, I’m going to require either 7 votes (total majority), or a 3-vote margin (ie 6-3, 5-2) in the results to change it over. Please vote.
I went with auction this time, for similarly self-serving reasons: I’m not actually in any auction leagues this year. Not a huge deal either way, though.
I don’t have a way of seeing who voted which way in the poll, so I don’t know which votes in the thread correspond to which votes in the poll. So just make sure you vote in the poll on the league page to register your opinion, that’ll be the final word.
As of now, we’ve got 6-3 in favor of auction. I did say I’d change in either the case of a total majority (7 votes) or a 3-vote edge for less than a majority (which qualifies for 6-3). So as it stands, we’ll be doing an auction draft. But there are 3 more voters out there.
I should’ve asked this before, but is there anyone out there who absolutely hates the idea of an auction draft and it’ll ruin their day? Or are the no people at least open minded about trying it? Keep in mind that if you don’t like it (and I think you will), we can always switch back next year.
I’m pretty strongly in favor of a traditional snake draft. Basically all my leagues have transitioned to auction in the past 2 years, and while I like it, I do like the nostalgia. If this one goes auction too, it has even less setting it apart from my other leagues (it doesn’t have much as it is). So basically, I’ll still play if it’s an auction, but I think this might ought to be a ‘the way it was’ league.
Can’t do auction leagues, if I am not able to make the draft. I may just delete the team. Unless someone can advise me how to do it without being there.
