While I know it’s a bit early to rely on Sagarin’s numbers, it’s fun while I’m getting my own feel for where teams are in terms of strengths. They helped me choose a couple of “upsets” with Toledo and Va Tech. It’s time for Beamer to unleash the dogs of war!
If they do, they aren’t out in plain sight that I have seen. My understanding (limited, for sure) is that the published rankings are composites derived from the lists provided by the contributors. As such, the individual rankings by contributor vary based on the whims and “analysis” of that individual. There does appear to be strong bias to “what we said last time” so that the up and down movement of a particular team’s ranking tends to stay near where it was unless the team lost big time, came close to losing, or made a big score against a “better” team.
Crap. Hey, Zeldar, can you disregard my vote for South Carolina this week? I got ahead of myself and thought they were playing UGA. Also, thank you so much for bringing these polls back. I had a lot of fun last year.
Oh, hell no :D. You’re doing a fine and admirable job.
Besides, you’ve expanded the poll to 25 and changed the scoring system. I’m fine with both, I’m just busier this fall. The job’s taking off so I’m going to have to work a lot of Saturdays, but far from all. Hospitals do have to run on weekends.
Also, and apropos of nothing, I’m going to miss watching Auburn v LSU later on this season. I doubt I’ll even get to see a single snap. My sis has bought tickets to UGA v Vandy in Athens and we’re going. I love my sis, but is it bad that I’m kinda rooting for Vandy?
Lastly, last year I offered prize to the winner. I might do that again.
Sorry, but I can’t bring myself to pick an SEC team not to lose an out of conference game nor can I pick a Big Ten team to lose an out of conference game. I may finish last every week, but at least when I do have a good week I’ll finish way out in front.
