Miyazaki, though I did do one years ago.

Cazale, though a great actor, is obviously a joke choice: he only appeared in five films.

Not so much a joke as an acknowledgement. Every one of them was highly rated.

Yeah, I was the one who mentioned him in the other thread, saying “We can probably skip him.” Picking his top five films would be fairly straightforward. Now, ranking those five might be harder.

Here are early replies:

Looks like Alfred Hitchcock, Woody Allen and Dustin Hoffman tomorrow.

So we are not doing Werner Herzog, then?

Why don’t you set that one up? I’m sorry to have left him off the list, so it would take a bunch of votes to get him there. I have no issue with your (or anyone’s) taking the initiative to have another thread (or more) devoted to anyone you want.

Movin’ right along!

+++ Poll already up.

I’ll shoot for Kubrick next.

That’s up now:

What are your Top Five Stanley Kubrick Movies?
07-20-2015, 07:18 AM

And now there’s:

What are your Top Five Clint Eastwood (director) Movies?
07-20-2015, 07:39 AM

Warren Beatty. He had a pretty brilliant career up until Ishtar.

Fellini and Bunuel are curious absences.

I think Burt Reynolds’ career is due for a critical reappraisal. Hope it happens while he’s still alive.

Bill Murray’s career has been kind of all over the place. It got real interesting when he stopped working with Harold Ramis, though.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

All excellent choices! Maybe it’s time to start another list of actors/directors to supplement this one.

Meanwhile, if you wish to nominate some new ones (not in this poll) please do it here. After another day or two I’ll post that new list to vote on.

Wim Wenders?

Including Wenders, here are the names not in the poll at the top. We can add others here and after we get at least a dozen, I’ll put up another poll for votes.

Pile on!
