In 1972, when the Del Amo Mall was brand-new, one of the little stores I visited was a candle shop. They had all kinds of candles: birthday candles, votive candles, sand candles--any kind of candles you could think of.
I told the salesgirl: "Maybe they'll come up with an 'Archie Bunker candle'!"
Well, guess what!
Sure enough, she showed me a large, bricklike candle, complete with wick, and a picture of Archie Bunker on the side!
I also once saw an episode of Emergency! in which Dr. Brackett told the paramedics that "a lady came in here sure she was going to have an appendicitis attack--and did!"
Post here something you experienced in which an implausible result actually occurred. (It's kind of like getting one ticket in a drawing for a bicycle--and yours wins!

Um, would you believe I spent years knowing I would just know then "THE ONE" appeared?

And after four hours, I DID know. Better still, so did he. We've been married just over a year. Plan to continue being married forever. Doing extremely well at it, so far.

Who says there ain't no love at first sight?

War veterans stories are not so uncommon where a soldier will hand over their personal effects to a trusted friend on the battlefield, saying "I'm going to die today, I just know it. I dreamt it last night, make sure my family gets these things." And then they get killed in battle. Bizarre things like this are probably just one reason why veterans are often tight lipped about their experiences. Statistically it might not be significant, but it's got to be one hell of a thing to see.

Yikes.

Well, if you go in with such a bad attitude (I'm going to die), you're going to do poorly! (ie die)

Aren't you just a Ray of Sunshine

Hrm, there's just got to be something ironic about that last post.

Yesterday I saw a truck in front of me on the freeway that had a matress fly off the back. As it sailed over four lanes and onto the other side, into the oncoming fast lane (full at rush hour), I thought "at least it's soft so it won't cause any harm. It DIDn't cause any harm. Traffic on both sides of the freeway came to a halt without any bent iron!

But today I was coming the other way and the matress was still there, now in the muddy gutter, but plainly beaten up by being hit, and I realized it was a wooden frame, that could have killed on impact.

I used to walk my dogs on the street we lived on in Santa Monica, California...I would imagine getting mugged on the quiet corner where I would stand while the dogs sniffed around and sure enough it happened one night.

Something good that happened when traveling :)

In 1977 I went to San Francisco; I bought some traveler's checks before going. I lost the last one, near the cable car turntable at Powell and Market. I had followed the advice of the teller who sold me the checks, and kept a little book with a list of all the checks and the date and purpose of use; so I'd have a record of all unspent checks.
A minute or two after I went into the office in the bank where you report losing traveler's checks, some people came in with one they'd found.
Wouldn't you know, it was the right one.
Moral: Keep a record of things when you travel. You never can tell.
