If you hit that new little icon with the red arrow, it automatically takes you to a reply page where everything in the post you are replying to is quoted. Like so.

BTW, guys, nice new stuff. Now this board has everything I'm used to on other UBB boards (except, of course, for edit.)

Actually, on some other UBB boards I've seen the number of posts by the user and their registration date appearing under their name in a thread.

How do you make that funky sunglass smiley?

Hey! Looky there. Right above the "Show Signature" checkbox, it's got a "Disable Smilies in this Post" checkbox. And there to the left of the reply box is a "Smilies Legend" link.

I like the old "big grin" smily. (: plue D) This guy is dorky looking.

I don't like the flames either -- and they mean it's an open thread with more than 15 replies? We could already tell that - if it didn't have the little padlock on it, it was open, and the number of replies are shown.
sorry, but I don't see where the flames are a help. Is this "form over substance"? -- give 'em some fancy-schmancy graphics and the teeming millions will be thrilled? Not me.

P. S. - I'm with Ursa - douse the flames! After spending some time only on the GQ list, I feel like I'm going cross-eyed. They're distracting as hell. Nice try, but the flames have to go!

Ay, the little flamin' folders are cute as a newborn, but I can see they're goin' to get old really fast.

If it's to go up fer a vote though, I say the little animated smilies get dumped into the sea with all due haste. I swear I'm havin' nightmares where I'm being chased about by evil little 'Pac-Man' figures with maniacal grins . . .

Overall, a fine effort folks, and much appreciated.

Isn't that the way it was when this MB first went online nine months ago? That's progress for you.

Note to Tuba etal: Please get rid of the flames. (I like the quoting feature, though)

THIS is the upgrade?

Great, now I have to redo my tutorial with those extra faces.

Wait, nevermind, there's a little link on the left. Cool.

Has anyone tested the search yet to see if it works?

I'm going to like the quote feature - sorry, Lawrence.

I hope the smiley use slows down - it's fun now, but will definitely get old fast.

But, please - lose the flaming folders. Didn't any of the admins read the reactions to these in the LB chronicles? Everyone hated those things.

PS - I do like the disable smilie feature.

wonder how my sig line will turn out. Testing, 1 2 3

IDEA

Hey Administrators,

It's obvious from surfing the boards the people are not keen to the idea of animated folders with flames.

Here's a thought, instead of the flames, maybe make the folders red (change the newest to blue?)

If that doesn't suit thee, then check out http://www.pspug they use a similar idea, but not animated.

I must admit the animation is a painful thing...

Just my thoughts

I don't hate the flames, but they do seem pointless, as we can see exactly how many responses each post has received. If such a feature is to be used, maybe it could instead refer to a thread that a moderater, admin, advisory board member, etc. has posted to.

My profile was also changed to what it contained about two or three days ago. Did someone forget to run a backup first?

And another thing! I want to know if there are new posts and not have to go into the thread to find out. Do the flaming folders mean no more pink ones to indicate new posts?
I wasn't getting the pink ones before the overhaul, but before logging on today I cleared my memory cache AND cookies - logged on and still no pink folders. Am I still having a problem or has the SDMB done away with the pink folders too?

If we're voting (and yes, I remember the "this isn't a democracy" thread) I vote to drop the flaming folders. They were cute at first, but they've already become annoying.

I like the smilies, and especially that the old is back.

Agree that flames (outside the BBQ Pit) are quite annoying. Let alone the fact that the folders still don't seem to consistently acknowledge when there are new posts under the threads.

Also wanted to take this opportunity to try out the different smilies! :O :P 8) 8D 8O :\ :/

Hey! I lost a lot of my posts! I was over 170 yesterday, today I am at 119. I was busy planning my 200 post party and now this

What happened?

Don't worry about the flaming folders too much, they'll annoy you for a couple of days, then you'll get so used to them that you won't even notice them.
