heres a question that just begs to be answered.
corn seems to come out pretty much the same way it went in. so what i need to know is this? is the purged corn still nutrionally viable? what degree of washing is needed for safe re-consumption? are we being kept in the dark about a potential end to world hunger? could a family of four survive indefinately off one can of green giant?

If your maize is exiting in the same condition that it entered, your small intestine needs a service check.
The hull of maize is pretty much impervious to digestion, but the portion inside the hull digests quite well. (Are you sure you’re chewing sufficiently?)
Societies for which maize is a staple food item generally grind or mill the hull off, using the interior nutrient portion to make bread or other meal. (In the Southern U.S., they use lye to damage the hull sufficiently leaving hominy.)
One trip through is all you get for nutrition’s sake.
