Been wondering lately (off and on) where this phrase comes from, besides Sallinger. I originally thought it must be from the Old Testament ;j, because of the wording and because it honors the bridegroom over the bride. Anybody have a line on this?
Hope you guys like coincidences. After posting this I started reading “The Undertaking” by Thomas Lynch, and he quotes Sappho’s “Fragment”: raise the ridge-pole higher, higher," “pitch the roof-beam higher, higher.”
