RFID tags in New U.S. Currency

Link

I am going to the bank tomorrow, and then taking a tour of Chicago gas stations and perhaps the mall to test this.

In the artical (2nd one) there is a link documenting that this is done with the Euro.

Could this really be what it appears to be?

This may be the wrong forum, but it would be something that I would love Cecil to look at.

First, I’ve had to wrap my head in foil to stop the mind control satellites, now I’ve got to wrap my money!

Hasn’t been debunked yet. Where is snopes when I need them…?

Worth a gander. The EU has admitted to doing it already. (or at least planning on it)
Makes sense to me.

I wonder if the company making the chips was a Bush contributer?

I am moving this to the GQ forum, since it’s not a reaction to one of Cecil’s columns.

Cecil does sometimes look at stuff in the GQ forum, and takes his Column therefrom. I will put this in the mail that he looks at, as well. However, please, just because you’d love Cecil to look at something is no reason to muddy the waters by putting it in the wrong forum. You’ll get better response from the Teeming Millions and have a better shot at Cecil paying attention if it’s the appropriate forum.

Didn’t know that. Where did you hear this?

FWIW, I did a thread about this

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Euro incorporates these kind of features…for years, there’s been radio tracking of dummy items posted across Europe, so the speediest postal services get the biggest cut of the postage-stamp pie. Doing the same thing within central banks etc is probably the only intention of any use of RFID - I guess the only thing to be worried about is the potential for misuse, which verges on tinfoil-hat territory.

Probably not yet for the Euro - but maybe…

Slashdot had this article on March 2, and they pretty well debunked it.
