This probably has been discussed here before, but apparently there are RFID tags in the new 20 dollar bills that explode when microwaved . I don’t really want to risk losing twenty bucks, so I’m not going to try it. The article claimed that the tags set off anti-theft devices, but how come I don’t see people setting them off constantly? And if it is true that there are tags in the bills, what use would they have to the government for tracking people? Cant current scanners only read up to 5 feet away?
I don’t have a twenty on me at this time, but I will try this as soon as I do. In the meantime, here is some recent info.
It’s a hoax. The guy’s a conspiracy nut. Take a gander at what is in his store.
You could have just put “RFID tags” into Search to see that it has been discussed - and debunked - here before. Twice.
Unfortunately, our friend Toblerone2000, being a mere Guest, is unable to use the search function.
You’re right. I misinterpreted his first sentence as saying that he didn’t bother to search, not that he couldn’t.
Darned transition period.
If you are worried, just wrap then in tinfoil.
Seriously, though:
Even if that were true, you could still exchange them for new bills at a bank if you had more than 50% of the bill left. And don’t put tinfoil in the microwave.
