Does anyone know who's reading from Eugene Sledge's memoir on "The War?"

Just curious what actor it is. Searches and the PBS site aren’t very helpful.

That’s Josh Lucas.

To find it: On the homepage for The War, click on The Witnesses, then The War Front. Scroll down to Sledge’s name and you get the link above.

Thanks! You had more patience with the site than I did.

I wonder how close he gets. It isn’t the voice I “heard” when I read the book, but of course I have absolutely no clue what Corporal Sledge sounded like.

Well, he is reading in an upland South accent. It’s a little different from a Mobile accent. With a Mobile accent you get more of the soft ‘r’, and also that thing where, for example, “word” becomes (almost) “woid.” One of the talking heads on the show is Sledge’s close friend Sidney Phillips. His accent should be more or less identical to Sledge’s.

Just curious: what voice did you hear in your head?
