Could a fully grown chimpanzee or gorilla rape a human female?

Bit of a bizarre question, but with all the threads lately about animal rape and chimp/gorilla attacks I did wonder if this would be possible. Certainly if a woman “presented herself” I’m supposing it could be done, but human females are not built exactly like female chimps, and chimps are exactly like human males re physical confirmation. Obviously a fully grown chimp has the strength to toss a human around, but if the woman refused to bend over I’m thinking there’s really no way it could happen.

Typo correction

Whether it’s happened with chimpanzees or gorillas (outside of porn) I don’t know, but it seems to have happened at least once with immature orangutans; a chef in the employ of primatologist Birutė Galdikas suffered such an attack. The story is told in the book The Dark Side of Man by Michael Ghiglieri.

ETA: Mrs. Rhymer is presently repeating the words “ew ew ew ew ew ew ew” and is looking for something which with to bleach her brain.

Apparently orangutans occasionallly rape women in Indonesia.

This was a captive-raised orangutan, rehabilitated and released into the wild. It was more socialized to humans than it was other orangutans. Contacts of mine in Kalimantan have told me that this wasn’t the only time an orangutan has raped a woman; it happens every couple of years to women who work at the orangutan center.

According to this:

http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/monkeywire/2007-September/000987.html
a chimp attempted to rape a woman in Nigeria last September, and had succeded in raping 4 women in the previous years.

I am less than 100% ready to accept news from Nigeria without outside corraboration, since I hear a lot of crazy stuff on line from that country, especially that someone needs to park $400,000,000 (FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS) in my bank account.

Google doesn’t tell me anything about gorilla rape except a bad joke allegedly made by John McCain.

In case it isn’t obvious, TMI.

My first thought was no; rape needs communication and threats, because you can’t thread a moving, unwilling needle. My second and third thoughts were he could hold her hips still, and ducks rape other ducks and they don’t even have hands. So, sure, he could rip her clothes off, knock her down, she’d probably land on her hands and knees, and there you go. The real question is would he be motivated; I wouldn’t want to have sex with a female chimp even if she bought me dinner first and signed, “Take me now, you hairless stud!”

My fourth thought is that, after reading the two posts before mine, the beautifully crafted post I wrote yesterday is now pretty lame.

Even if the woman cooperated, a non-human ape couldn’t get much penetration. All of the other primates have tiny penes, compared to us.

Tiny in length or girth? When I’ve seen nature shows of male chimps, their erect penises seemed long enough, but very skinny.

Just in case there’s any lingering confusion on this particular point, rape doesn’t require any communication or threats. A vagina isn’t the eye of a needle and an erect penis isn’t thread. No coercion is needed–brute force works.

What about clothes? Would they even register to a non-human?

Even chimpanzee penises are only about 3" in length, and other primates have even shorter penises.

Any adult Great Ape primate has the raw strength to do pretty much anything they want with a human being, and most primate species have been observed demonstrating forcible sexual behavior, including chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans. (I don’t know about gorillas; they, tend to be pretty docile). Cooperation or coercion isn’t really at issue; the fact is that they could rip your clothes off and force you into any position they wish.

As for the likelihood of interspecies rape: haven’t you guys ever seen a male dog trying to stud every bitch, cat, and leg in evidence? For that matter I used to know of a rabbit that would try to have its way with every cat in the house, requiring a belled collar to avert episodes. And of course there is Pepe Le Pew (although his confusion is at least marginally excusable).

Stranger

It would seem that if a gorilla or other powerful ape approached a woman from behind, when she was already bent over, he could grab her by the hips and do as he pleased. She’d be no match for his strength.

I never learned how to rape.

I could see some kind of molestation/sexual attack, but it doesn’t seem like penetration would be all that likely given clothing. Assuming the primate was able to get off the clothing, would it even occur to the primate to do so? Maybe someone with a skirt on would be in trouble, but jeans? Dry humping / frottage seems the most likely scenario.

Suppose she’d been skinny dipping in a pond…

The other problem would be the primate recognizing her vagina. IIRC at least some other primate female genitalia undergo visible changes when they enter estrus.

When it comes to rape ANY penetration is too much if you ask me. It’s not the size of the penis that matters, it’s that it’s an unwanted intruder.

I can see no problem with an adult ape (of any species) simply tearing the clothes off a human female and raping her if he was motivated to do so - the question would be, would a male ape ever be motivated to rape across species lines?

Give that adult males of H. sapiens have been known to screw/rape dogs, sheep, and Og knows what else I don’t think it’s too far-fetched to consider that other apes might do the same. As viscerally disgusting as it sounds, I’m pretty sure, based on human activity with animals in general, that some male human has had sex with some female ape at some point. Particularly apes that have been raised with a great deal of human contact might not be daunted by clothing (they might be accustomed to wear clothes themselves and thus familiar with them as things that could be discarded/peeled off). Apes are pretty smart compared to everything besides us, I think a horny and motivated male could figure out where the desired orifice is located.

I’d also like to point out that apes are by no means restricted to “doggie-style” from behind penetration. Gorillas have been known to indulge in oral sex and bonobos are known for doing just about anything with just about any variation you can imagine.

My apologies if I seemed to imply otherwise, as that was not my intention.

I didn’t think it was! But the phrasing could be read somewhat like that…

This post has been Aped by the Apeist!

My word, you sure are the picky one :stuck_out_tongue:
