Does cortisone help a pulled muscle?

I pulled my hamstring about six months ago, and it’s not getting any better. I’ve been trying the RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) process, but it turns out it’s hard to rest a hamstring. I’ve cut out all physical activity, but even walking seems to aggravate it.

Years ago I had really bad chronic tendonitis in my wrist, and a shot of cortisone cleared it up overnight. I’m wondering if cortisone works similarly on a muscle pull. Both tendonitis and a pulled hamstring seem to be an inflammation of soft tissue, so I was hoping cortisone might be an option. I’m going to see a doctor of course, but I like to be a little informed on the problem beforehand if possible.
