3 months ago I was moving some boxes at work and I injured my hamstring. It felt like a rubber-band popped right near where the upper thigh meets the groin. The pain wasn’t too bad the rest of the day so I assumed it was a minor thing that heal itself.
However, in the weeks and months that followed it never fully healed and the pain and soreness have not gone away. It is still uncomfortable to do many normal things like sitting at the computer, walking up stairs, and any kind of lifting.
I need to know what to do to get this thing to heal. It has been long enough. I failed to address the problem when it first happened, which in retrospect is what I should have done.
How do you treat a hamstring injury that has hasn’t healed in 3 months?
After three months if the pain and soreness are still pretty persistent (and not just after yo doing some activity that tweeks it) then I’d treat it by going to the doctor.
Almost certainly a pulled/torn muscle.
What are your current/recent activity levels?
Do you favor the leg when walking?
Is there a feeling of weakness when the muscle is loaded?
An oddity of an injury like this is that without stimulation, sometimes the body just doesn’t bother to heal it if not given a reason.
Wrap with elastic bandage.
Ice several times a day if you can.
After a week, if pain is lessened, start some gentle stretching.
DO NOT STRETCH TO THE POINT OF PAIN!!!
After another week, you can start some gentle exercise. Standing leg curls(without weight) and lying facedown on a bed will both work the muscle without much strain.
