Facebook: Where do I post a general message?

I have been on Facebook for about 8 months. I can’t tell what is going on!
I want to make a note to everybody that shows up on my wall. How do I do that? Is it under news feed? Something else?

You can go to your profile and type in the space that says “What’s on your mind”

Make sure the little privacy icon (that looks like a lock) is set to show everyone you want it to show. I have mine set on “Just friends”. If you truly want everybody to know (including strangers who see your page) choose Everybody. If you want to let friends of friends know, you can choose that too. Finally, you can choose custom to only tell specific people.
