URGENT!! Can Anyone Help Get a Dog to Her New Home?

I have gotten permission from TubaDiva to post this here.

I am helping a rescue orginatazion calle Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue get an abused English Setter named Aimee from Florida to Iowa. Her journey will be driven in legs of aproximately an hour or a little over. There are still 7 legs that need to be filled; the journey begins tomorrow, 1/14 and runs thru Sunday 1/15. I know this is short notice, but TubaDiva didn’t get my request when I first sent it.

Please take a moment to look over the list of needed legs I am posting; if there is ANY WAY POSSIBLE, please consider taking one of them. I am picking her up tomorrow night, overnighting her at my house and then taking the first leg Sunday morning.

I know there are a lot of animal lovers here on the Dope; if you can help at all, please let me know. Or just email Donna (the coordinator) at:

aboveandbeyondtransports@fastmail.fm

We are desperate to get Aimee home!

ORIGINAL POST:

Above and Beyond English Setter rescue is requesting your assistance in
getting Aimee from her temp foster home to her long term foster home in IA.
As usual, ALL legs are f-l-e-x-i-b-l-e.

If you are in between stops, but willing to help, email us with your
location and we’ll discuss the possibilities of rewriting the run sheet
to accommodate you.

Also, you all are out there driving and know your roads better than we
do. If you need extra time added to the leg, please let us know when
you
volunteer and we can tweak the times to account for construction and
high traffic areas.

REMEMBER!: Many of the groups that we coordinate for are 501c3
non-profit. If you itemize deductions on your tax return, you can
use your transport expenses (either actual expenses or the
charitable mileage rate) as a tax deduction.

Sorry, I can’t help at all. If you ever need a dog or cat driven in Alberta, though…

It doesn’t help you now, but in the future, you might be able to get transport help from Pilots N Paws.

PapSett - I can do the Chattanooga-Manchester run. You have a PM.

StG

No help, unfortunately. Too far north in Indiana. :frowning:

Best of luck. Looks like most of the legs have been filled. Go, Dopers!!

THANK YOU ST G!! I have sent your info to Donna. Hope shs is in contact quickly.

I appreciate everyone taking time to read this and offer help. So does Aimee. I will post her picture once I have her in-hand. This is all very exciting to me, doing a bit to help a pooch in need. You guys are the BEST!

Let’s keep this bumped up so everyone has a chance to see it.

Bumping one more time, Donna, the coordinator, is giving it till 9 PM to fill the legs, and if not, Aimee’s trip will have to be postponed. :frowning: Hoping that doesn’t happen.

Why a long term ‘foster’ home? Why not just give her to me?

I have friends & family in Eastern Iowa, but those have been filled. Sorry. :frowning: Good luck!

I haven’t seen Aimee yet, but the description says she is very thin and untested with children, so I assume that is why she is going into long-term foster, to get her back to full health and learn more about her temperament. I know the last transport I drove was a super-sweet English Setter girl names Marcie and OH! How I wanted to smuggle her home with me!

I haven’t heard any more from Donna yet if the transport is on or off for tomorrow… fingers & toes crossed!

I can’t help because I’m not in the right area, but I just wanted to say that I occasionally help with these types of transports in Louisiana, and it’s a lot of fun and very rewarding. A lot of the dogs I transport come out of high-kill shelters and are going to rescues that will help the dog find a new home. If you can help, please do!

Thank you so much, PaPsett.

You more than anyone here knows how much Dondra and I love the four-footed ones, and we wish you all the best for our little Aimee.

Just one more way to show how much Dopers rock!

Love you guys!

Bill

Can we help from Carrollton to the other side of Atlanta? (toward South Carolina).

Bill

Bill: The leg #4 that said it needed to be filled in the post above is filled now, I think all they need to fill now is leg #15. It’s looking like Aimee will be on the move tomorrow! WHOO!! I am still waiting for the official word from Donna; it’s going to be a busy weekend for me-volunteering at the horse rescue tomorrow afternoon and then the Great Adventure With Aimee tomorrow night/Sunday.

What I won’t do for these critters…

Who would think I’d be excited about spending three hours on the road and spending $30 worth of gas.

Tomorrow I’m in for Chattanooga to Manchester.

StG

I  you StG!

I just got a thank you note from Donna for helping put this together… she said if I ever want a job as a coordinator to just let her know.

This just feels so damned GOOD!!!

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of of this, sweetie.

Bill and Dondra

Oh, Bill… it ain’t over. I drive for Above & Beyond whenever I can… Since I know it it allowed here now, I will be cross-posting for help when needed in the future.

Pictures of Aimee to come after I get her here for the night tomorrow.

Awesome, Darlin’. Me and the lovely D will help out any way we can. Just let us know, honey!

Love you and them!

Bill and Dondra

You know this is going to totally stress the dog out. Why not ask each person to donate $10 and ship her (?) to Iowa via airline. It would be much less stressful to the dog. Although I realize that temperature may be a factor that would be a problem. Most dogs do very well shipping by air. Much easier than changing cars/people every hour or so.
Just MHO

BTW, I think what you are doing is totally great. We just try to get long stretches done at a time if we’re rehoming a dog so the dog isn’t so confused by so many cars/people. OTOH, if that is the only way to get it done, by all means do so.
