Been following the latest women are victims/men are pigs thread that started out MPSIMS.
And of course between the extremetist on both sides it ended up getting moved to the pit.
Then it occurred to me as an OP I’d be pretty pissed if my thread got moved to the pit. And I’ve seen this happen a fair number of times before in what should have been rather “normal” threads in some (all?) forums.
Would it make sense that for threads that started off in a nicer forum than the pit for the OP to given a few options? One we close this disaster. Two, if you like we will move it to the pit. Three, we start modding some asses as are forum appropriate.
Haven’t really thought this through and kinda busy today, but again I’ve seen this in the past and know a few times if it had been me as the OP I’d be a bit peeved.
OTOH, there have been a few threads where if I had started it off in a nicer forum and the mods said “you wanna move this shit to the pit” I’d be like “hell yeah!”
Just some food for thought so the mods can actually earn those gold plated coffee mugs…
Reported this for forum change to the Pit.
Let’s go to the quarry and throw stuff down there!
Generally speaking, after someone (hereinafter called “The OP”) has started a thread (hereinafter called “the thread”), they no longer have control over it. Threads go off on tangents that the OP didn’t intend and doesn’t like. The OP asks for no spoilers, and someone posts a spoiler. The OP wants the thread closed, but it’s a lively and active and interesting thread. And so on. ::: shrug ::: That’s the way it goes. The OP does not have control The mods moderate as necessary.
There are a few exceptions, of course, but speaking broadly, that’s our approach.
And it took only approximately 20 minutes.
In situations like that the OP often approaches us first, and we’ll close the thread if it’s appropriate and that’s what they prefer. But most of the time posters don’t get a vote on how we mod a thread. If you open a thread you have a certain amount of say in where the discussion is intended to go, but we’re not not necessarily going to close or move it because you’re not happy with how it’s turning out. We do that in some cases, particularly if the thread topic is personal, but not others.
I think there is some sort of Godwin type rule that any GD thread, if left open long enough, should be moved to the pit. At some point, everything civil than can be said has been said.
Your misspelling of the word “that” really pisses me off, sir. I’ll see you in the pit.
