Which pillow? Small-built gal with pain. Tried several

Hi, all. Please be warned that this is a detailed question, but I had no choice since I wanted to convey the background details in the hope of accurate answers.

Now some background.
I’ve already tried several types of pillows (see below) but they were uncomfortable for me.
For example, causing my ears to hurt due to not yielding.
Or causing me headaches and upper arm pain.

Some more details about my pillow requirements:

…I am built small and sensitive.
…I sleep on ALL sides varyingly - my side, back & stomach.
…I tried the As-Seen-On-TV My-Pillow (white label) - but it was overstuffed and not-yielding (not cool either!
…I also tried Down Alternative which also did not yield to my needs
…I also tried Amazon’s Coop shredded memory foam pillow, but found that to be unyielding (overstuffed heavy foam lumps.
**
On the other hand, down/feather pillows are most comfortable for me.**

My question is:

Which affordable down/feather pillow:

(1) is most yielding (not too overstuffed relative to its size)
(2) lasts many years
(3) doesn’t turn “prickly” as happened with one of my feather pillows

P.S. Not interested in buckwheat, due to reports of it being noisy. No matter how low you say the noise is - not interested.

BTW, for all I know, the Coop pillow or the MyPillow might have been OK for me had they not been overstuffed.
But it was hard to tell since there was no zipper allowing me to scoop out foam the way buckwheat pillows offer.

Try to find a seamstress to slice open and remove some innards from the pillows you’ve already purchased. It’s not a challenge to the seamstress, pretty straight forward. You will have to go along so as to determine when it’s ‘just right’. Like the three bears!

Good Luck!

Down pillows can be quite expensive. Whichever one you get, I highly recommend that you also get a good quality pillow sleeve (goes on under the pillowcase) that will help keep body moisture from turning your pillow nasty, and will cut down on any allergy problems and dust mites. Periodically, you should throw the pillow in the dryer to re-fluff.

We use pillows with springs inside. When we are away from home, the pillows come too

Another strong vote for an under-case/sleeve on pillows - I have a water proof inner case, another cotton case, and then the case which matches the sheets.

These are feather/down which cost a bit over $30/each in 1980. They should last another generation.

I got a really great pillow at the Brookstone store. It might be this one-- not sure. It’s not the evil and dreaded memory foam. Maybe you can find a Brookstone store and feel them up (as it were).

I am the Bitch Queen of fussiness when it comes to pillows. I have four of them on my bed right now* and these days I arrange them in a careful pyramid mountain configuration that is hard to describe.

*and many more stashed in closets. I’m always searching for the perfect one.

I sure would also be interested in a good solution.

I too sleep in many varied positions and most feather pillows are too “fat”. They are uncomfortable after an hour or two. I have also spent dollars on cheap ones from Target, Bed and Bath, Macy, etc. None of have made the grade.
I usually end up with a sore neck or end up just sleeping on one arm, then switch to the other one all night long. Arrgh!

I like these ones. Unfortunately they have tripled in price since I got mine.

You can choose high loft firm, high loft plush (this is the one I have. I’m a stomach sleeper and it doesn’t force my neck back at an odd angle.) Low loft firm and low loft plush. I guess the price of latex and really gone up.

Hi, guys. I should have emphasized that I’ve fibromyalgia, and my whole body feels like Princess and Pea. Picture yourself getting easily black & blue on your entire body.
That’s me.

Anyway I took a look at the Brookstone video.
From that I realize its not for me, because when her head went down hard into the pillow, it caused the stuff surrounding her head to “spring” up sorta like a bouncing rubber ball, albeit soft one.

That was my experience with the down alternative, and that was no good for me.

I need it to gently conform without suddenly springing up surrounding my head.

As for scooping out the extra’s from MyPillow, I’m not really sure it would help, and then I can’t return it. I analyzed it by pressing my head down into it, and realized that little foam pieces can become sorta hard when they’re compressed, thus my black-and-blue ear-pain. Whereas that does not seem to happen with Down (unless its old).

The pocket-sprung concept looks interesting but I require soft pillows.
I even got to wondering whether anyone thought of designing “3d-printable” little thingies which can act as perfect pillow stuffing based on various peoples’ requirements  Can 3d printers cough out styrofoam?

As for pillows with piped-edging, I consider that a disadvantage because doesn’t that make the pillow edge less KNEADable (less conformable) to those of us who like to knead the edges and reach underneath to cradle our heads - at least sometimes?

For example, I noticed that IKEA pillows have piped edges. The Guldpalm brand seemed like it might be good, but then I thought it might be too under-stuffed. That’s aside from its piped edges which I’ve no experience with to-date.

I also vaccillated to Lands End ELITE but that is expensive, and for all I know it may also be under-stuffed.

Has anyone tried any of the ones below?
