It is a big day here in Las Vegas - people have been booking wedding chapels like crazy to get married on this “lucky” day.
Back when I was young and living large in NYC, I held a huge party in a downtown loft on 7/7/77. At 7:07 we all drank 7/7’s (for those of you who don’t know, that is Seagram’s Seven with Seven Up). I got some friends together and we sent out and handed out invites to people at random…plus sent a few to celebrities…we looked in the phone book and found a woman named Marilyn Seven and called and invited her - she laughed and said she would have loved to come, but it was her birthday that day and she had already arranged for a large party of her own.
The night of the party we had probably 50 people show up, of which nobody knew anybody else. It was one of the best parties I have ever had…a few of those people became friends for many years afterwards. One of those guests was a really great guy who became a close friend - he had received the invitation from two lesbian friends who had received the invitation from one of the celebrities and passed it on.
Anyway - please continue the tradition and be sure to celebrate 07/07/07 appropriately!
Pfft. It’s my 21st birthday. 07 + 07 + 07 = 21. My birthday is magic–add up the moth, the day, and the year, and it’s my age. Anyway, I probably won’t do much of anything to celebrate it.
I did a quick peek on Google. The only flight 7 on the first page of results was a major international incident in the 1980s. Perhaps that flight number was retired?
Still… it’d be interesting to talk to Virgin Atlantic about a charter flight that day on a Triple Seven, with low-stakes (or not so low, in first class) casino games on the plane.
I’m guessin’ that was flight 007, the Korean Air Lines plane shot down by the Russians when it inadvertently crossed into their airspace near Sakhalin. Yes, both the flight number and flight path were subsequently retired.
Except I don’t drink because I’m bipolar and now that I’ve finally found a medication cocktail that works, I have no desire to mess with my internal chemistry. But thanks anyway.
In Pamplona we always celebrate it, thanks, y’all can come and watch the bull runs. Please don’t run drunk, don’t run high and don’t jump from the fountain behind St Nicolas.
Maybe Cartoon Network will show all the episodes of ‘8th Man’ uninterrupted.
As for me, my son just passed the test tonight to try for his green belt at the next promotion held by the dojo. I celebrated by getting him a soda… and my wife and I a lottery ticket. Hey, if he can have green, why can’t we…?
