(#1)USC + (#2)Oklahoma = An Asskickin'

Uh, because they proved time after time after time that they could win games? Did you miss the entirety of the 2004 season, or what?

That set of quotes is badly misplaced. They earned their #1 ranking by allowing the fewest points per game to be scored on them of any team in the nation. Also, they did not really struggle. They held VT to a shutout until when? Mid-4th quarter, when Beamer called a few (read, 3) inspired plays. Good on Beamer. He’s a good coach, and VT is a good team. Methinks that even USC would have had their hands full with the Hokie D, the way they showed up last night.

Oh wait! I guess I wasn’t being cordial, since I called bull shit on your post.

Still, you’re being an idiot for getting so worked up over “what might have been.”

Believe whatever you want. The real truth of the matter is, we’ll never know. As for what you firmly believe about your favroite team, well, the experts didn’t see it that way, did they/ Which is why we are in the mess we’re in.

Your opinion is simply a fan opinion. As is mine. Let’s fight the real enemy together. The BCS fucked up. Two years in a row. lEaving 3 zero loss teams each claiming their own superiority is a bad thing that could easily be fixed. PLAY OFF.

I remember hearing from other honks earlier in the season that USC shouldn’t even be ranked that high because of the weak conference they’re in. It could have been very possible that USC could have been biased against to the point of playing Michigan in the Rose Bowl and OK playing Auburn or Utah instead. No matter which way you dice it…teams get repeatedly screwed by the BCS.

Cal got screwed too, but Texas certainly made the most of that screwup against Michigan.

It was your escalation to “total bull shit” that I objected to. As for your weak rejoinder, yawn. Save it for GW or Cheney or the next serial rapist.

Clown.

Auburn could have proved to the coaches poll that they deserved to be #1.

Did they do it in the game against VT?

Ah, ignore my previous post then. Peace?

YES! I take back my fuckwads, too. I’m a little sore right now.

;j
Right now, I weep for the future of College Football being locked into the BCS. Trust me, even tho I am very disappointed tonight, I would still rather see ONE undisputed champion.

There is one undisputed champion.

Who would you vote for USC or Auburn?

See, this is the kind of horseshit that the BCS is built upon. You’re comparing a disappointing showing by Auburn from what, 25 games and two years ago? There is simply no way to do that. The denominators are not common, and there is no objective way to make them that way. In spite of your objections, there have been many changes to Auburn since then, possibly the most important of which was that the fans, school, and team are now rallied around Tuberville, whereas last year they were not.

And by God, a 4-team playoff would have screwed a few other good teams, but it’s so damn much better than what we have now.

Depends who would win the Auburn-USC game. Auburn is undefeated. They’ve earned a chance to play for the title.

So was Utah

So was OU

So was Boise State

How do you pick who plays?

Under the system everyone signed up for, I would say obvioulsy USC.

As for it being undisputed, tho, I refer you to the above posts from an Auburn POV, the interview with the Auburn coach before the Ashlee Simpson Halftime by Duracell, and any number of articles one can find on sports sites all oevr the net.

Face it, the BCS has failed to bring us what they promised. IMHO, the only solution is a play off bowl system. Give Auburn, Utah, even Texas a chance. NCAA Football is the only major sport I can think of that still reies on opinion, nit actual games, playing a major part in the choosing of a champ.

Why is it the BCS’s fault? If it weren’t for the BCS we would have seen USC smacking down Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Errm I changed my mind. Fuck the BCS.

Go Bucks!

If it only took an undefeated record to get into any playoff system, many teams would sign up to play against your William and Marys, Browns, Colgates, etc…it would become a playoff system of poseurs. Keep the BCS, but plug in a playoff system after the best undefeated teams rise to the top.

Let me do a little more clearly…

I hate the fact that opinion is what causes the seeding for the NCAA Football Championship game. Sure, they’re experts, but it still comes down to opinions and not games. In the basketball tourny, opinion still plays a roll, but it is a much, much smaller part. By allowing several teams a road to the championship, we get a championship run based on actual game outcome.

Yeah, the polls will have to remain in place. Mostly because there are too damn many teams and only about half of them have a conferance championship game. So, we would still have to have the pols tell us who to seed for the several brackets. Then, let the existing bowl games be the brackets. The final four play in the BCS bowls, and then a true college superbowl at the end.

It could happen. I want a pony, too.

If we just had the two polls, it would’ve still been USC-Oklahoma. The BCS caused some other bad games, but I don’t think it’s responsible for this one.

I thought Auburn was better than Oklahoma too, but not that much better. USC could’ve put up more than 55 tonight, and 9 of Oklahoma’s points came after the Trojans stopped trying.

Sorry… to continue that thought, at this point I agree with the people who say that there shouldn’t be any polls until after a few games have been played. That is what screwed Auburn.

I prefer to think of it as payback for Auburn losing games they should have won last season after USC slaughtered them, thus preventing USC from making the title game, destroying OU/LSU and winning the title outright last year.

This outright title makes up for forcing USC to share one last year. It’s karma.

Or teams like Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, and the Citadel?

According to the NCAA’s own strength of schedule list, Auburn’s schedule was rated 9th, Oklahoma’s 21st and Southern Cal’s 31st. (That’s from memory, OK & So. Cal could be reversed.) Auburn played five teams that were rated in the top ten at some the time this year. Nobody else is even close to matching that. I’d dry it up on the schedule subject if I were you, as there’s not a leg to stand on there.

Ogre is indeed a gentleman. He’s an Alabama fan! Normally us Auburn folks and Alabama folks don’t try to support each other’s case. Anyways…

The problem with the BCS is that when it was started the promise was made that it would deliver a consensus National Champion. More often than not, it has failed to do that. Creating false expectations is always a bad move.

Hindsight being 20/20, this year it would have been simple to seed USC/OK/Auburn/Utah in two of the bowl games and have the two winers play for the Championship. Only one extra game! But what will it look like next year?

Until there’s a playoff, we can have all this fun with arguements every season, just like we used to do, before the BCS.
