I just got back on Saturday from St Thomas. 10 days in paradise.
We (my girlfriend Krystal and I) flew into St Thomas and stayed the first night at a Hotel called the Bunker Hill Hotel (beware, bad midi song plays on the website). Not the nicest hotel but it was good enough. The next day we ferried over to West End Tortola and picked up the yacht at the Nanny Cay marina.
At the marina we met my brother and his wife. We rented a Bavaria 39 foot sailboat. and picked it up from the marina. This was a bareboat charter, meaning that we just grabbed the boat, loaded up our stuff and took off. No crew besides us.
Once we left we headed down to Saba Rock in Virgin Gorda. Saba Rock (warning, more bad midi) is a hotel on a rock. There ain’t much else there. We moored for a couple days there. It is an awesome little place. We did some snorkeling and my brother did some kite boarding.
We also moored at Cooper Island, Cane Garden Bay and Jost Van Dyke. We swam a lot, saw tons of cool fish and basically lazed about for 10 days. One of the funnier things was at Saba Rock. We went to another island and the island had a little marshy place a couple hundred feet inland. We were walking around and came across hundreds of little land crabs that were each about an inch and a half long and they had one huge claw that was almost as long as their body. They saw us and scattered though a couple would run a few feet, turn around and threaten us with their pinchy claws of doom, then turn around and take off again.
We then headed back to Tortola and turned in the boat. We stayed the last night in St Thomas and got in a bunch of shopping before flying out.
I’ll get some pictures posted here in a day or two, once I get caught up with after trip stuff.
If you ever get a chance to go down there, do it.
