I got nine right! Woo hoo! (missed interpolate)

I thought the 10 words were going to be, “Welcome to McDonalds. Is this for here or to go?”

Fisher Queen you just rock!

Went to the site, just kept refreshing and refreshing.

Are there any statistics on how many actual HS grads know all 10 of those words? I’m guessing <2% nationwide.

I got all ten! Where’s my diploma?

Fagjunk Theology: Not just for sodomite propagandists anymore.

Ten for ten, but I’ve got a pretty good vocabulary.

Considering that, more than three decades out of high school, I’ve never used ‘abstemious’ in a sentence, I can’t see why any high school student needs to know it.

Abstemious is as abstemious does, RTF!

Nine for ten, graduated two years ago. And I think there are other words that are far more important than those…

For instance, the word banal. I hear this word constantly, so I finally looked it up. High school graduates should know this word, so when they realize what life is like after high school, they can have something other to say than “THIS SUCKS!”

10 for 10.

Score! I’m like totally smart and stuff.

Especially as so few of them are.

10/10, and I have used “abstemious” in a sentence on more than one occasion. It’s a great word, and needs wider usage, IMHO.

Everyone should post 10 words they think a high school graduate should know.

Right after I peruse my dictionary whilst lounging in my bath I shall astound everyone with my selection.

Please
Thank you
You’re welcome
I’m sorry
Excuse me

and, um . . . Cecil?

I got all ten right. But I graduated from high school 50 years ago this year. And like RTFirefly I don’t recall ever having used ‘abstemious’ in a sentence.

Off the top of my head, here’s my ten I think people should know, and should know how to use properly in a sentence:

comprise
conscientious
ecumenical
fecal
historicity
hyperbole
literally
morose
pedagogy
profligate

[sub]Damn…I hit ten before getting past “P”…[/sub]

On Preview: Scarlett, I’d gladly sacrifice my ten if we could get high school graduates to use the ones you’ve listed more often (except maybe the last one).

Same here. Does anyone feel inclined to post the answers, so’s I can check how many I got right?

Got all ten, three years out of high school. I’d say I’ve used 4 of those words in context in my life.

Interesting. I’d say 1 (astemious), 2 (bellicose), and 5 (gauche) are the “vocabulary”/SAT words. The other ones should all be learned in specific classes. Because of that, I was 100% certain in my answers for those, and definitely not so on the the other three.

History: filibuster, gerrymander, suffragist
