13 year old Tyre King murdered by police

Once again, the OP posts something without understanding it.

Aren’t most 13-year-olds seriously mentally deficient?

My thoughts exactly. While I have never heard of anyone being killed by a BB gun, I imagine it could be possible. I’ve been shot with BBs through acts of childhood stupidity. It certainly hurt like hell and required medical attention.

a proper air rifle like this one can kill birds and small animals. It doesn’t just hurt when you get shot with one, it can put you in the hospital, requiring surgery to extract the projectile. A lucky shot to a major artery could be a serious emergency if you’re far from medical help.

Not sure about the muzzle velocity on a pistol powered by a CO2 cartridge, but I sure as hell wouldn’t want to get shot by one, and I think a cop who has one pointed at him is fully justified in using lethal force to defend himself.

Because you’re 13 and an idiot?

Yes, god forbid we expect the police to attempt to defuse such a situation before immediately opening fire. God forbid we do anything that might put them at any risk of bodily harm in their profession! We should hold police to a much lower standard than anyone else when it comes to cases of self-defense.

Once again it all boils down how youths and yes, adults respond in situations such as this.

Forget it SDMBers, its a Boffking thread.

How is it a “much lower standard”? Is anyone arguing that a private citizen should be held to a different standard if he reacts the same way the officer did?

My cousin caught one in the chest, and it lodged in the pericardial sac. I was really close to losing a family member that day.

Anyone would be protected under a self-defense claim in this case. Grow up. No one should have to hesitate if their life is in real immediate danger.

I’d like to think that if I hunted down a kid, then he pulled a BB gun out of his waist and I immediately opened fire, I would be held to a different standard. If not, wow, what the fuck America.

Really, that puzzled me, too. Seeing someone draw something that looks like that would IMO meet the reasonable person standard for perceiving an imminent threat.

The kid was planning to fend off gangs with the gun, and he attached the laser so he could read his textbook for his next school assignment – what other explanation could there be??

And just how would you know it was a bbgun in the moment? And they didn’t ‘hunt him down’ like an animal. That is something your people did.

The police shouldn’t carry guns at all. Look at the UK or Iceland. Their officers don’t have guns, and very few of them are killed in the line of duty. I think we should try to be like them. Officers having the ability to kill just leads to more deaths on both sides of the law. Do you think the Icelandic and British police “Gamble with their own lives” by not having guns? Because I think it works better for them then the American system works for us.

My mistake. 13 year olds never carry a real gun. They never participate in robberies. They never would try to shoot a policeman. They are quite easily identifiable as a 13 year old. In an alley it’s quite easy to see that the gun is a BB gun. And there’s always plenty of time to talk the guy down as he draws his weapon.

And police never gun down kids then lie about the circumstances.

And this time, there aren’t even any pesky cameras to lie about their actions, unlike the last time.

The police should have known that breaking and entering and pointing guns is just how Tyree is used to playing.

How many guns are there in the UK? Iceland? How many guns are there in the USA? Probably more than there are neurons in that pointy head of yours.

Was Tyree a gentle giant, similar to this gentleman,
