15 Degrees and Sunny! In December! In Toronto!

Just gaping at the mild weather wre’re having today… it’s a warm, sunny, springlike afternoon here outside the office in the Toronto area. The grass is green, flowers are blooming, and herds of Canada geese patrol the lawns of the DuPont complex across the road from my work.

At midafternoon I relaxed outside our building in the warm sunshine, making a call: no coat, just a sweater, and I was completely comfortable.

I’m not complaining exactly; after all, it’s December the 5th, and we should be muttering and swearing as we fight the ice and winds to get to our vehicles. And there is a downside to the warm-weather tendency: it was 42 degrees in Toronto one day at midsummer.

But still, just today, the weather is a thing to marvel at.

I could definitely get used to this. I love it! For the metric-impaired, that’s 59[sup]o[/sup] F. Just so you don’t think it’s much ado about nothing.

And also for the metric-challenged, 42 degrees is Just Too Bloody Hot.

That what sucks about being suck in an office and being to lazy to go outside.

I missed the warm weather. :frowning:

It was almost 70 degrees here today. In Rhode Island. In December. It is so not seasonal!

I’m not really complaining though, I’ve grown to hate the cold. So it’s a nice little surprise to not have to be all bundled up.

In Oklahoma, USA, where we usually have bone chilling bitter winds this time of year and coat and sweater weather, it is currently 74 with a lovely spring-like wind whipping across the plains.

62º (for you silly folk that insist on the metric system, that’s 17º) here in Madison.
We had a severe thunderstorm warning this afternoon. High winds, hail, heavy rain. In other words, a June thunderstorm just blew through in December. Cripes, I’m gonna have to mow the lawn again!!

Here in Minnesota it’s currently 33[sup]o[/sup] F, the wind is howling at 30 mph, the sun didn’t show up all day, and there’s a lot of snow on the ground.

This sucks.

:frowning:

It was 68°F (20°C) in Chicago today. Set a record. Severe thunderstorm warnings in NW Illinois. High 47°F (8°C) tomorrow.

Somewhat off-topic, but I’ve always figured that Fahrenheit is the better system for weather. Celsius is convenient for science, but is based on the freezing and boiling points of water, which are useless benchmarks for descirbing the weather. Fahrenheit, on the other hand, runs from really damn cold at 0 to really damn hot at 100, spreading the weather out nicely across the 0-100 range, with a few outliers. OK, well, it’s useful for Boston weather.

I prefer Celsius; I just get a little annoyed when I remember that “33 and wet” in Fahrenheit is typical nasty cold depressing just-above-freezing November-type weather, instead of the potentially-erotic steambath condition that it can be in Celsius…

BTW, the CTV news said that the official high at Pearson airport, not far from work, was 16,7 degrees Celsius. And they unofficially said that it got as high as 18 downtown.

December in Toronto. Come see the bloomin’ roses… limited time offer.

Amen. I’ve been saying the same thing for a long, long time, and nobody ever seemed to agree with me. (No metric system types, anyway)

Sunspace, you’re too far north. Down here, in Windsor, we did officially hit 18. 65 F according to the Detroit TV. In December. I love this. I have day lillies blooming on the side of my house. Personally, I tend to use celcius when I’m referring to cold temps, and fahrenheit for warmer ones… 70 sounds good for a warm day, and -10 just sounds better for a cold one. It’s one of those border town things.

BTW, it was 12C outside when I woke up this morning - before the sun had even come up!

It could stay like this all winter, and I would be deliriously happy…

“Dear Santa…”

Here in Montreal, we hit 18C (64.4F) this morning, a new record. However, it is supposed to drop to 0 (32F) tonight. Talk about your extremes !

It’s still December? Cripes. I had assumed that I had just slept for several months an woke up sometime in April.

Damn.
