But does anyone know why it’s called the “Mormon Meteor”?
Probably because it was originally built for Ab Jenkins, then governor of Utah.
Correction: Mr. Jenkins was governor from '40 to '44. Guess he was too busy on the Salt Flats before then.
According to the article, this is how it got the name:
“The featured ‘Duesenberg Special’ and its owner/driver Ab Jenkins set numerous speed and endurance records on the Bonneville salt flats in Utah in the 1930s. Jenkins renamed the car the ‘Mormon Meteor’ in 1936, the winning name submitted to a contest in Salt Lake City’s Deseret News newspaper.”
