I’ve been trying to find details about an incident that took place in 1954, in Cairo , Egypt. The Egyptian police arrested two me, who were caught planting a time bomb in the US embassy in Cairo. The Egyptians questioned the men, and claimed that they were MOssad operatives. Is this true? The Mossad has used agents provocateurs in the past…but there seems to be very little info on the net about this incident. Anybody know about this?
I found a 1954 article saying that the Egyptians had broken up an Israeli espionage ring which had tried to set fire to the US embassy library in Cairo and also the US Information Service office in Alexandria. The Egyptian spokesman said the acts were committed to sabotage US/Egyptian relations.
