1970s Cold War fiction

Yeah, Spy vs. Spy is not necessarily about the Cold War specifically, but you could interpret it as thematically related. I included it to let people know that it would be ok to suggest something a bit different. I’m not necessarily only looking for Len Deighton type stories (though they are good suggestions in their own right).

Ludlum’s “The Matarese Circle” (1979) definitely fits as a cold war story.

There may have been 10,000 spy novels of that era that involved the Cold War.

Right- it was about right-wing Frenchmen attempting to kill Charles DeGaulle, for what they considered his traitorous abandonment of Algeria.
