1984: What state did Mondale win in the EC?

I seem to remember that it was not Minnesota, his home state. Or am I wrong? And if not MN, what state was it?

It was Minnesota. If you have a broadband connection, you can go to BBC’s interactive map of blue vs. red states – click on the “Past Elections” tab, drag the year slider to 1984, and voila.

Looks like it was MN and DC.

I see. Thank you.

(I could’ve sworn I once heard someone say “…and Mondale didn’t even win Minnesota, where he was from…now that’s humiliating!”. But apparently not.)

Well, Al Gore didn’t carry Tennessee in 2000.

And yeah, I forgot about DC (kinda hard to see on that itty-bitty map, ya know?) which is very Democrat-leaning. In this election, they went for Kerry over Bush by a margin of about 9 to 1.

You MIGHT be thinking of 1972, when George McGovern only carried one state, and it WASN’T his home state of South Dakota (which went for Nixon)- it was Massachusetts.

I remember seeing (or at least hearing about) bumper stickers that said “Don’t blame me—I’m from Minnesota.”

Marge: I saved this newspaper from the day Lisa was born.
Lisa: “Mondale to Hart: [confused] Where’s the beef?”
Bart: “Where’s the beef?” What the hell that’s supposed to mean?
Homer: Heh heh heh heh heh. “Where’s the beef”…No wonder he won
Minnesota.

Cool site. It really brings into perspective how close the last couple elections were compared to others.
