1995 detroit newspaper strike.

In another thread I was talking about my commencement speaker at Michigan. It was the guy who ran the newspapers while they were on strike and there was a demonstration an cops and a big scene.

But I can’t find anything about it. Nothing about the strike gives his name, and the official university site doesn’t mention it. Am I totally losing my mind? Somebody has to remember the guy’s name, it was in the news for about 5 straight years, usually preceded by , “That son of a bitch…”

Neal Shine? Detroit Free Press

I’m guessing they’re talking about Bob Giles, editor and publisher of the Detroit News. It would help if you’d tell us, in this thread, when you graduated.

You might try contacting Michigan’s alumni office. They have access to local university resources that might not be on the web, and they might be able to help you out.
