Well, they’re figuring that was the vehicle used because witnesses saw such a truck leave several of the murder scenes. Sure, witnesses sometimes aren’t completely reliable, but still…
Not several, only the parking lot of the post office on Thursday.
2 of the shootings took place near a craft store.
I wasn’t trying to distance myself, just explaining that since most of the shootings seem to be within a small area, I wasn’t sure of the justification for cancelling afternoon classes here in Baltimore. Like I said, better safe than sorry, and I did go pick up my daughter from school rather than let her walk home like she normally does.
I am scared, especially now that they’ve definitely linked this shooting to the others.
My husband is a salesman, and spends a couple of days on the road. He isn’t usually in that area, but I’m thinking about it anyway.

What’s there to be scared of?
You have just as much chance of being gunned down now as you did before these shootings occurred. These are apparently random shootings; just because it’s the same person doesn’t increase your own personal chances of getting shot one bit.
Now, if the shooter had expressed a hatred for silver-colored Saturns like mine, I’d be a bit worried. Best not to be driving it around.
This is not the case. Nothing has been found that links any of the victims.
There’s no reason to think that the shooter or shooters will come after me; therefore it’s just silly for me to be afraid of them. If they shoot me, they shoot me. What on Earth could I do about it? Worry more?
And here’s another way to look at it. People are gunned down every day, and some of those are random shootings. The only thing that sets these killings apart from every other killing is that they were done by the same person. Doesn’t increase or decrease the chances of it happening again.
I live a town or so over from where the 13-year-old was shot this morning. At any time when I was driving home, someone could have fired a high-powered gun into my car and killed me instantly. Am I supposed to cower in fear because of this possibility? That’s ridiculous.

Everyone has a right to cope with this by feeling outraged or fearful or whatever. I mean… it makes no sense for me to be outraged. I can’t do anything about it… can I? If people are fearful, I can understand it. This feeling is imho, not at all ridiculous.
If someone was trying to be inconspicuous and wanted a fast getaway, why the hell would they drive a conspicuous, cumbersome, boxy white truck?
I wonder if he/they are delivery truck drivers–using interstates from Maryland down to Fredericksburg. They probably know enough not to make their own actions too far out of the ordinary for their own routine. They are probably out, making deliveries, blending in and covering as much territory as their route allows. He has hit a cross section of the community–all different races, just doing mundane things. He took the weekend off!! Like this is just a part of his ‘job’ and in so doing, hit us when we are all stuck in our neat little daily routines. Which actually, in a way is odd, since that person on the bench probably isn’t there everyday, they guy mowing the grass-- really early in the morning–didn’t do it every day, the kid dropped off at school, wasn’t normally dropped off there everyday, the woman vacuuming her car, didn’t do it everyday, etc. They were all kind of out of their place.
…But I babble…
Hmmmm…that’s a good point – the fact that he strikes during work hours does indicate that he’s probably on the job himself.
rubs chin
It’s the CIA. Just kidding. I thought I’d just give the hamsters at Echelon a nudge.
Anyway, this sniper is stone cold. People try to paint him as sick and twisted, which may be the case, but he’s certainly not letting his mental illness get in the way of his execution.
I really hate to bring this up, but could this be The Terrorists? I thought the latest threat was something along these lines, and the whole metro area is paralyzed with fear, which would be just what They want.
Yeah, but doesn’t a terrorist have to die himself so that he can be a martyr in order for the 30 virgins to be waiting for him in heaven?
“The Terrorists” ??
they are white
one of them belongs to some type of historical re-enactor group probably civil war
the person with him is his father who did have military training they take turns being the shooter
the father owns his own business
the son is employed by his father
I still think it’s a ridiculous attitude to take. Sure, your initial reaction is going to be fear and uncertainty, but there’s no logical reason to remain so.
You know what? I might die in a car crash tomorrow morning. Should I be fearful of driving tomorrow? Of course not. And yet it’s probably more likely that would happen than me getting shot by some sniper, considering that with the car I at least have some control over the circumstances. With an unknown assailant shooting me down, I have zero control, and therefore it’s futile to be fearful.
John Malkovich in the Clint Eastwood movie In the Line of Fire.
That was my first thought, too. I posted it in the other thread on this subject a couple days ago.
The character was from a secret team of trained killers within the CIA who was a bit too tightly wound, and something just snapped and he went on a rampage. He was adept at rapid & accurate death, quick getaway, and eluding law enforcement.
Seriously, jokes aside, it does make me a bit uneasy, since no psychological screening of these trained killers can be 100% accurate at screening out the bad apples.
Guesses:
White male(s), age 25-35.
As someone else said, “stone cold”.
Either military training or an avid hunter / outdoorsman.
Has a message / idea that he wishes to get out.
The media will publicize this message once he is caught.
He will be caught after he draws enough attention to himself and therefore to his cause.
“He was quiet, had few friends, kept to himself… kind of a loner”
Damn I’m good.
Anyway I heard somewhere that all the victims have been non-white. Is this true? If so, add white-supremecist to my list.
And add me to the to “military training not necessary” list. It’s very easy to hit a torso sized target from 200 yards with a scope and a bench rest.
I dunno if they are all non-white - I’ve gotten my news from the radio, so I don’t see any images anyway - but I haven’t heard any mention of a racial angle, which you might expect to hear if all of the victims were the same race. You know how the press loves to jump on that kind of thing.
I had the same thought that An Arky did – it would certainly explain the care taken in not getting caught, the careful planning, and the “military experience” part of your profile. Were I the authorities, I’d probably have thought of this, and would try to downplay the possibility. But it certainly is a relatively inexpensive way to generate confusion and dissipation near the capital.
