2 unrelated questions: Motorcycles and sneezing

Some people ride motorcycles year round despite the snow. Some are so dedicated that they actually attach an outrigger to their bikes so they don’t necessarily fall if a tire slides.

Instead of my anecdotes, I wanted to address this question more generally–yes, it’s much more dangerous.

  1. Think about the momentum. Most street motorcycles (with rider) weigh between 500 and 1000 pounds. Without coming to a complete stop, how do you overcome that to turn on ice? What will a panic stop look like?
  1. If you ride a bicycle on ice, you probably fall down some. The same is true with a motorcycle. The speeds are rarely comparable, and you also have to assume some injury from the bike itself hitting you as you go down.
