My wife’s escape will, on occasion, light up the “Low coolant” light (looks like a carousel) on the dash on start-up on cold days. It always goes off, and I have checked the coolant level in the “jug” and it appears to be fine.
It could be caused by a low coolant level which may be hard to determine by a quick look. There’s a technical service bulletin on this. Apparently it can be tricky to accurately see the coolant level in the part of the jug that matters. I would suggest to remove the pressure cap (COLD ENGINE ONLY) and slowly add coolant until there is no doubt that all portions of the jug are filled to the proper level.
Thanks Gary, I will do that. My wife refuses to let me change the oil in it (long story about changing the oil on her 95 T-bird taking about 6 hours omitted) and instead takes it to Big Ray’s Quick Lube. I assumed they had filled it, but they probably try to fill the jug and aren’t any better at eyeballing it than me.
