I hear what you say, Sam Stone, but I’ll stand by my judgement. I’m a Zevon fan and was once a professional muso, so I know you’re right about him having influence. I remember seeing him on his solo tour and noticing that several members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers* were standing next to me. Not so odd, but they were there the next night too. He was revered as a song writer and a wild man.
