2008 Altima loud rumbling sound when accelerating from a stop

It is a very loud sound from the front right, I hear it up to about 20 mph/2k rpms, then it goes away oompletetely and the car runs perfectly, no hesitation or sound when accelerating. It’s not a wheel bearing of brake caliper as unfortunately I’ve heard those sounds before. I’ve watched about 20 videos and haven’t found one with the same sound. The closest was a car with a bad heat shield but that video was on the highway. The sound is louder if I am pulling out on a hill. If I slow down to about 5mph and under 2k rpms and accelerate, it doesn’t happen. Doesn’t happen in reverse, or when in park and I rev it. It started not long after I ran over a curb pulling into a gas station, maybe 15 mph so it was jolt, but I poked around under the hood and under the car and nothing seems to be loose. Sway bar link seems solid. I did notice last night, after driving a about a mile to the store and back, the engine seemed to be pretty hot.

Seems like it’s got to be something in the transmission, but why only at low mph/rpms? Could it be something wrong just with 1st gear? Possibly, hopefully it’s just that the transmission fluid needs to be replaced? I don’t think it’s ever been done on this car, Nissan recommends it at 150k miles.

I’ve got an appointment with my garage but they can’t get to it until Saturday, neither can anyone else in town and I will lose some Uber dollars but I’m afraid to drive it anymore for fear of causing other damage.

Holy muffler? Or somewhere between the exhaust manifold and the converter?

Sounds like a possibility.

Bad CV axle? Or CV joint boot? They usually make noise when turning a corner, but not exclusively.

Are you absolutely sure no part of the heat shield is torn? This sounds almost exactly like our car after someone ran partway over a curb and tore the heat shield about a quarter of the way across. It took us days to find it, and then it was only because the edges of the tear were fraying more.

It was a a part of the suspension which cracked, about a $500 repair

Oof. I’m sorry wishful thinking didn’t work! Although that’s not a bad price for a suspension repair.

It’s got a CVT, there isn’t really a “1st gear.” This Nissan service bulletin may or may not have some clues:

And much better than finding out on the highway when the cracked part fails.
