And Arthur is going to Portland (via Charlotte), so that adds yet another exciting young player to a team that was already ahead of schedule last year.
Chalmers and Douglas-Roberts are still left with three picks left in round one. Those seem like guys the Spurs would have taken in years past, college winners.
Was really hoping the C’s would take Chalmers at the end of round one. Guess the vets will have to kick Giddens’ ass into shape, because if I hear “off-court issues” one more time in the analysis of the pick…
I went out to dinner and came back hoping that the Bulls got Douglas-Robert and I see that he was actually still there and we PASSED on him! Total bummer. I know nothing about this Weems guy but apparently he was a workout wonder. Not sure why we’d draft another developmental guard unless they really wanted a guy who they could sent to the D league or something.
Love that the Trailblazers are back making splashes in the draft. That is what drew me to the team originally, and it hasn’t let up.
I was excited about Rush, I thought he gave the team that final piece. As a longtime Tucsonan, I’m not thrilled with Bayless. He’s a shoot first PG and the Blazers don’t seem to need that. He also had a tendency to whine a lot and remove himself from a game when he had things going against him. There were times he gave less effort than a zombie would have. Great scorer, but we really needed a distributor. I was hoping for Augustin.
I imagine everyone who’s still awake saw this news.
The T-Wolves essentially swap picks with the Grizz and each team dumps a bad contract in the process. The main players will be Mike Miller and Kevin Love going to Minny and OJ Mayo and Marko Jaric going to Memphis.
I like the deal for the T-Wolves but I’m not in love with Kevin Love. The guy just never impressed me that much, I feel like a lot of the hype is just Great White Hope. He does handle the ball well and knows how to put it in the basket, but he’ll get shut down by anyone longer and more athletic. Them getting Mike Miller however is a terrific fit.
I’m not sure what the Grizz were thinking. Seems like they were just desperate for a guy who might sell tickets in Mayo. They now have a ton of guards and are going to need to move a couple of young guys to make room for Jaric and Mayo. Expect Conley, Crittendon or Lowry to get shipped out fairly soon, probably 2 of them as a matter of fact.
Once again, the Bobcats show utter ineptitude. It’s so hard to root for this team. Augustin may be OK, but Lopez would have been a better choice at that spot. As for the French Center they chose at 20, was that worth trading away a conditional 1st rounder??? Dumbasses.
Wizards: Never havin seen more than a clip I like what I hear of our first pick Magee and so does Wilbon .
I have learned to trust Ernie Grunfeld (I whined when Larry Hughes left, scoffed at the selection of Nick Young last year [10.6 ppg, 2.1 reb, 51.9 fg%, 50% 3p% in March),and screamed when we shipped Navarro who has since returned to Spain for huge Euros), So, ugh, he as a Professional GM knows more than me. But we sent Bill Walker our number 2 to the Celtics for Cash… What the hell kind of Cincy Bengals move is THAT? IF it is for resigning Arenas & Jamison or we are going to exceed the luxury tax threshold to sign a Free Agent on top - I am going to hope Grunfeld did it for a reason. I have learned not to blah-blah alot about Ernie … but on face value right now yesterday is a little disappointing
Roy Hibbert is a great kid. I really like him, but I am just more and more convinced that when you get a buzz around you and you are going to be a lottery pick you need to go in this day and age. I wish it wasn’t so. That is horrible both for the NBA and the College game. You can’t play “what if” the draft can be flukey but it is not insane to speculate that he lost himself ~$4MIllion on the 3/4 life of his Rookie Contract by staying. That is one hell of an expensive price to pay for a college Education and doing the right thing and being a cool kid and an upright/solid citizen.
Typical draft for the Blazers, they drafted four players and I have no idea who they ended up with.
OK, I kid, sort of. Seriously I don’t know how Kevin Pritchard keeps it straight, but I always need charts and graphs to explain this stuff when he’s done. (OT- The man is definitely smart though, I remember an interview with him after last years lottery. He was talking about being in the room, and explained the process. Each team is given so many 7 digit numbers- and he’d memorized his, so when the computer spat out the Blazers for #1 he was the only guy in the room who knew right away- everybody else was scouring their sheets. He commented that he couldn’t believe they wouldn’t know those numbers by heart.)
Anyway, I was getting excited for Rush- he seemed the perfect puzzle piece… but many people at Bayless ranked higher than where he went. Plus Indiana fans seem just peeved over the trade. So, we must have done something right.
Either way, our team has real potential to make a major breakthrough next season.
But, just read this glowing description:
He is a 7-footer from France with a long way to go to get strong enough to play in the NBA. His father was a wrestler. He is very athletic, but he needs time.
We may need to start a new thread to figure out if Michael Jordan is on the same NBA management career track as Isiah Thomas because his moves tend to make very little sense.
The Nets got CDR at #40? Wow…
I don’t know much about Anderson, but Lopez and CDR seem to be great value for those spots. I saw some mocks that had the good Lopez going as high as #3.
Somthing tells me OJ Mayo is not going to be happy in Memphis.
I couldn’t believe Douglas-Roberts and Chalmers fell that low. Part of the NBA’s eternal fascination with guys with size or wingspan and “upside” rather than guys who are already pretty well-developed and proven players.
The whole operation is a joke. A few months ago my neighbor told me his daughter gave him two passes to a Bobcats game, including admission to the new lounge they opened in the arena. We get there, go up the VIP elevator, everything was very cool. Had a nice buffet, a couple of beers, and then it was tip-off. You can’t see the game from the lounge, other than on the TVs. We asked where the seats were and were told there were no seats for the game… the pass was just to the lounge. We were welcome to stand behind a velvet rope at the edge of the lounge, where you barely see the court and watch the game if we wanted, or we could watch on the TVs. The arena was practically empty. They said it was a promotion to get people to the new lounge. Not the actual game. The lounge. We turned around and walked out. Dumbasses.
