Have you seen this thing where you can replay games as experienced through the prism of Twitter? Sounds like bollocks, but it is kind of interesting. Watch the Twitter circles ebb and flow and explode at key points in the game. [Flash]
I don’t get it, Ximenean. All I get is a bunch of bubbles when finished downloading. No doubt it’s cool, but it’d be even better if I understood what it meant.
I’m using Firefox if that matters.

Say anyone know of DS Young’s whereabouts? Miss the guy in threads like this one.
Trust he is doing well anyway.
I am not a soccer guy, and I’m probably wrong, but I think maybe you were confused by this:
MaxTheVool is referring to the teams won/loss/tie records. In the 2-1-0 example, that team would have 6 points, because they won 2 games and lost 1.
In the 1-1-1 example, that team would have 4 points, because they won a game, lost a game and tied a game.
And GEAUX USA!
Well, you click on a game and you get to relive it, as seen through the tweets of people around the world, conveyed to you through the medium of… pulsating circles. Or something. Look, I didn’t say it wasn’t nebulous bullshit, because it quite clearly is, but I nevertheless find it diverting.

Apologies for missing that one. Then again, it’s not one I’m waking up for. DVR will do just fine.
Kewl, it is. But I also feel like an idiot for trying to make sense out of it.
Pretty good for an American semi-neophyte. Now go catch footy-fever dammit!
Actually, it will be a little bit better than that: it’s Greece v. South Korea. I’ll still probably sleep through it, though.
So a possible answer to my earlier query (post 39) about Univision announcer Bracamontes is that the mockery of Tshabalala’s name continued with mockery of African town and team names. This site says it is racism . Most of the games I’ll watch will be on Univision. Is that really how it will be all tournament?
If I may, without even listening to Univision (same feed, but really crappy commentators) I highly doubt it has anything
Could be wrong but I doubt to do with racism as much as pronouncing names as written – as per the Spanish alphabet anyway.
And remember, many of those broadcasters/journalists know the players beyond the pitch. Thus these are the only ones (that are) in position to asses. All else, including color is only in their mind’s aye.
Cheers Eye.
True. I generally like Mexico’s chances of going relatively deep, but their GK might kill that.
Those cheap plastic horns are the reason I hope to see South Africa crash & burn in the next two matches. Brazil gives us Samba. Many other nations will sing. Those horns are what SA is giving the soccer world. And they’re proud of that? I am now a huge fan af France & Uruguay.
I agree. I like Tyler, but it’s pretty inexcusable to screw that up once they saw the replay.
That South Africa, Mexico, France, Uruguay group looks quite soft now that first two matches have been played. Weak!!!
Javier, this is me, Eugene
Mexicans I know have latched on to an interesting conspiracy theory: FIFA, in their efforts to get the host country to the second round, got Mexico to give the man who was until 3 weeks ago their third string goalkeeper the top job against South Africa. I honestly don’t know what Aguirre is thinking putting Perez in over Ochoa or Michel. Ochoa would have stopped that (great) South African goal, i think, not from superior skill but just from a longer arm.
I felt both teams were not playing up to their typical form out of nerves, my evidence being the number of botched passes that I had seen at least the Mexicans ace in other friendlies. Now that Mexico didn’t do anything bad to South Africa and their victories help Bafana Bafana in the next two games, I hope they get some local support.
France bores me without Zidane. I predict South Africa and Mexico both beat them, and that Mexico and the winner of the South Africa/Uruguay game advance.
I can’t wait to see which team pulls of a Senegal and beats a big boy this tournament. North Korea? New Zealand?
I will be cheering for USA tomorrow, they can beat England if they focus on crisp, patient passing and ball possession. Torres ought to start. Should be a hell of a game.
This is my first World Cup since bringing my daughter home from Korea.
And now, Korea is beating Greece 1-0!
Go Korea!
Yeah, I see North Korea is in it, too. Are they any good? We’re South Korean here, obviously.
The games are great, but am I the only person annoyed by the endless low droning that comes from the idiots that won’t stop blowing on those damn plastic trumpets?
EDIT: I guess not. That’ll teach me to read more carefully.
Chalk me up as another one who is starting to hate those horns. It sounds like a swarm of angry hornets are hovering above the stadium.
Korea are simply outclassing Greece here. Greece got nothing. Would it be patronising to observe that it is a sign of how football has gone global, that it is no longer surprising to see an Asian side comfortably beating a European side? Yes, it probably would.
And 2 goals from a United player, Park Ji Sung, has been nice to see although I’d love him to have got his hat-trick.
2-0
Go Korea! Dude, they really outplayed Greece. Greece’s chances just dropped by a lot.
This year, I have three countries representing me. USA, S. Korea, and England.
Yes, I’m conflicted over today’s match at 2:30 Eastern.
God (I mean Diego), please bring the cup back.
