2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

Actually I find that entirely believable. Who messes around with mere arithmetic?

Rhymes, on the other hand, will be hard to come by.

It seems to me that wiping the yellow/red card slate clean after the 1st round is a bad idea. I’ve seen far more rough play and fake injury tactics in these 3rd games, since there are no consequences. The Brazil/Portugal game was just a disaster.

It doesnt get wiped until the quarter finals

It does seem silly that they have this amnesty at an arbitrary point. More sensible would be a rule that you are suspended if you’ve had two yellows in the last x games. x=2 if they’re feeling kind, maybe 4 if they want to be mean.
I understand why they’re doing it this way - they don’t want star players to miss the final as has happened before, but it seems to be favouritism to those players. Same rules should apply to all players.

I agree, especially for some of the really reckless stuff, and also for the real cheating shit like the dive taken in the penalty area by that Portuguese player today. He should have received a red for that, IMO.

That goal that Spain just scored (1-0) was one of the craziest goals I have ever seen. I definitely think it is the furthest away goal I have ever seen.

Wow, major fuckup by the Chilean goalkeeper allows Spain to take the lead. Really well-taken goal by David Villa.

Try this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFOL2mBm-V0

That’s a young David Seaman getting chipped from 40 yards out.

Very nice goal. 2-0

And Chile is down to 10 men.

That sending off was ridiculous!

Great goal, but another horrible call by the refs. That was a dive that Greg Louganis could be proud of, and Estrada is gone because of it.

It’s hard to tell if there was even contact there, but it certainly wasn’t intentional.

Bad luck red there.

It’s possible that he clipped his heel, but it certainly wasn’t a card-worthy event.

Yeah, very bad call.

If the score remains the same, and Switzerland can beat Honduras, Chile will miss out and Switzerland will go through.

He did clip his heel, and it was a yellow for being reckless, which it was. Doesn’t have to be intentional.

2nd yellow = red.

Chile is crumbling apart. Spain is a lot better, simply stated.

No, it wasn’t. And he lay there on the ground like he was poleaxed. That should be a card for him, not Estrada. Incidental contact like that is not a foul, especially when they’re not even on the ball.

Whatever FIFA does between now and the next World Cup, they need to address the quality of the referees and the incessant diving.

Reckless? He was running towards the play, not even looking at the Spanish player. Both commentators agreed that it was a bad call.

His heel was clipped.

A foul doesn’t have to be brutal. It doesn’t have to be intentional, either. Reckless is enough. Which the foul in discussion was. Yellow. Also Estrada had been warned again subsequent to his first yellow. He was hanging by a thread from that Ref, and blew it.

They’re wrong. Ignoring where you’re running when overtaking a player from behind is reckless.
